Some GOOD washer news for a change....

Glad things are starting to work, Paul. I love those old GE filter flow. Sure wish I still had our old 59 model. The 57 always fascinated me with the timer on the left.

    POD 10/8/17: Universal Brand Appliances

There was an old Universal window air conditioner just like the one in this ad in my high school algebra classroom. It was a circa 1947 model.

Does anyone have a Wheilpool washer and dryer from 1952?

Early 50's Whirlpools definitely had straight vane agitators. In fact, the earliest models had RED straight vanes. Robert at one time had a 52 with the straight vane. Whirlpool did't change over to the wavy ones until around 1954 or 55.

    Weekend find

I knew this was a 59 model from the control panel. I grew up with my great aunt's 59 top loader. and yes, the dials do light up.

This looks like a rebadged Norge timeline to me. Curiously, I was watching an old episode of Adventures Of Superman with George Reeves the other day and this very same washer and dryer was in the episode. They were in the basement of Jimmy Olsen's apartment wheee he had a chemistry lab set up...

    POD 8/20/17: Salvo Detergent Tablets

Looks like a Maytag Highlander in the photo. My mom only bought Salvo once or twice. I loved how they would make such a loud clang when you dropped them into a solid porcelain tub machine. Mom was a dye-hard Tide user.

    POD 8/12/2017

My great aunt had the MOL one-speed 59 washer. It had two separate wash cycles: Normal with up to 15 minutes of wash time and the short cycle with a 3 minute wash. The normal cycle had black letters and the short had red letters. There were three white toggle switches: wash temp of hot, warm or...

Beautiful machines! Thanks so much for sharing the pics and video. I love the way the three colors of the cycles light up.

I'm surprised the agitator doesn't have the grey scrubber cap. All the 58 and 59 model Kenmores, except for the very last frogeyes, had them and a neighbor of ours when I was a kid, had this model and it had the scrubber.

Thanks for the pics! I know you will enjoy them. One thing you should check is the belts on both washer & dryer to make sure they aren't stuck to the pulley or cracking from dry rot. Can't wait to see your maiden wash!

"Ya know, Every Now and Then"....(in my best Tina Turner Voice)

Beaitiful! The 58-59 cycle-fabric is one of my favorite models. I love the multi-color timer on that machine. Can you post a close-up of the washer timer?

    POD 07/20/17

The ad is for a 1952 model, the first year with a backsplash. Robert Animatic used to have this model.

The timer looks exactly like the one on the 55 ABC. I would love to see that agitator in action.

Why were really old Whirlpools (50s-60s) branded RCA Whirlpool?

We had a 1962 RCA Whirlpool window air conditioner when I was growing up. It was 12,500 BTU, ran on a 220 volt line and was robins egg blue inside and out. They also made Sears Coldspot air conditioners in those days.

The only thing I didn't like about these Maytags (including my 1962 model) is the short rinse period. Two minutes of agitation just isn't long enough for a full load - especially if you use liquid fabric softener.
