POD 5/2/12 Crosley Dishwasher From AVCO

My great aunt had a 1950 Crosley Shelvator refrigerator. When her house was sold in 1989 it was still running strong. Her next door neighbor had an early 50's Crosley air conditioner which lasted them about 30 years with no repairs. The fan motor finally burned out so they had it replaced...

These arrived 2 days too late for the Spring Wash-In...

Beautiful! Now you need to get a turquoise pair to make the collection complete! I'm partial to the sunny yellow myself.

The * on the dial is where the deep rinse begins. The space before the timer gets to it is the spin-spray rinse.

    My vintage washers

I do use the Chef Norge. Usually one load a week. It's great for jeans and sturdy perm press stuff. The 1-18 of course is  towels, sheets, tightie whities, etc. I agree about 1959 being a great model year. I rolled off the assembly line myself that year. ;) The Lady K is giving me some trouble...

    My vintage washers

I'll do some close-up pics this weekend. The Norge has an extended soak which automatically runs into the Normal wash cycle. There's also a separate "short wash" cycle with a 5 minute was n' soak and shorter rinse and spin than  the normal cycle has.

"The Lady K appears to be a combination of at least several different machines.". The timer is from a 72 Lady Kenmore. The original one for this machine was stripped beyond repair. It had a silver timer instead of the clear plastic that's on now.   Robert, I'd LOVE a 50's Hotpoint! I'll keep...

    My vintage washers

Thanks to club member Steve Kirkpatrick I'm building a collection. I now have three vintage washers and two dryers, both gas. An early 60's Maytag in dark brown and a 1970 Lady Kenmore. Here are a few pics of the washers I snapped last weekend.

    My Crazy Obsession

Great job, boys! I thoroughly enjoyed the show and you both explained alot about the fun of vintage appliances by talking about the design history and the overall mindset of post-war American appliance manufacturers like GM. When that water poured out from under the 50 unimatic I thought "this...

    Heavy soil

The 20 lb Norge are indeed great scrubbers. I have a Magic Chef labeled Norge with the white burpolator and it's a real workhorse.

    "EXTRA RINSE"

I believe Kenmore was the first to offer an OPTIONAL second rinse circa 1967 as opposed to it being a part of the regular cycle.

    Rub a Dub Dub

In-laws should never be allowed anywhere near a vintage machine.

Robert, what's that green 59 GE cap doing on the 47? LOL

    WASH-O-RAMA! Part One:

I love the vintage Hotpoint ads. Maybe one of those models will turn up in the future to keep Robert's 56 company!
