    Best washers and dryers

The main reason I would be careful to trust a repair persons point of view on which machines need the most repairs is observation bias. They know which are easy and cost effective to repair and where getting parts is easy. They might even know what breaks in which machine. But there's a very...

    Best washers and dryers

I mean, it's not something new that any version of the VMW can fail early. They did from day one, for one reason or another. I don't think they do so more now than they did then. And there's still like a pretty large number of people who have their machines 5+ years without an issue. You just...

    Unimac UYT025 Now With Heat!

The multiple suds bath isn't all that up to date. Over here, you just scale heating power. Further you reduce balancing time and rinsing time. Add some VERY strong detergents. And depending on machine size multiple inlet valves (keep in kind if a single bath is 20gal plus, actual fill times...

New Miele W2 Nova Edition on Miele Swiss website

Now there's something interesting. In the footnotes, Miele claims that even Eco 40-60 in conjunction with their TwinDos detergent supposedly reaches "qualified hygiene standards", an so does QPW 60°. But the videos show quite effectively why they need a bedding cycle for the washer now. All...

New Miele W2 Nova Edition on Miele Swiss website

QuickPowerDry says it can do 4kg in 49min. That's about in line with other similar systems (like Arceliks 5kg in 1h). Extrapolated from that, 9kg would take something just shy of 2h. My VZug claims to do 7kg in about 90min on its speed setting, which again, seems about in line. I don't think...

New Miele W2 Nova Edition on Miele Swiss website

Keep in mind those times are from 1000rpm. Going to 1600rpm will save about 25% of time, bring you down to 3h or there abouts. At 9kg that's still reasonably fast. The old cycle list still states 3h ish for the 1600rpm normal dry, and extra dry is still just a few minutes more than Normal. And...

    Insane Asko Final Spin

Keep in mind most Miele machines with an FU motor up until the W1 (think Softtronics, Navitronics, EU W1xxx/W4xxx and the like) could be reprogrammed up to 2000rpm. The W1 my (now ex) partner had was also allowing 1800rpm in the programming menu.

    Insane Asko Final Spin

Drum size plays a role as well. But I think all the 2000rpm and 1800rpm machines quoted 42% residual moisture. 1600rpm is 44% roughly. 1400rpm is 50%. So going from 1400 to 1600 saves about 10% in the dryer. Going up from 1600 to a higher level another 4-5%. So overall about 15%.

    The Cool Wash Temperature

Fact is many US users wash in tap cold water. That worked well with non HE systems. But with the very little water newer machines use, adding even a bit of hot water can make a HUGE difference. I think GE has had models in the past that had tap cold, cold, colours cool and brights cool before...

New Miele W2 Nova Edition on Miele Swiss website

So far, Mieles highest efficiency is A -20% which they even get on 9kg W1s. But Miele never competed with those absurd efficiencys. Given how little the Eco 40-60 cycle is actually used (and useful) it's pretty much a moot point to go for a machine for anything after the A. ELux has gone down...

New Miele W2 Nova Edition on Miele Swiss website

Oh, so it is deeper. I was checking the parts list for the 1200 and 1000 and they both use the same dampers, on all drawings you could see the same number of honeycombs and the same weight made me believe they just had to have the same drum. Especially since the German parts catalog does not...

Whirlpool high efficiency top load washer is very loud in the spin cycle

Bearing faults are usually not catastrophic if you can endure the noise - but it's only gonna get worse and most people rightfully hate that sound. They can get catastrophic at some point with bearings seizing up instantly and suddenly during a spin which could cause extensive damage to many...

New Miele W2 Nova Edition on Miele Swiss website

It's really interesting that this confirms that those 2 machines should be way more similar in reality than their data confirms on paper. Both are 9kg, both have a hot fill option, both have similar cycle times on non-Eco cycyles. But one is more than 2 inches deeper, spins slower and is 20%...

    Best Buy Insignia appliances

It's usually a "one of everything" or a "the awkward ones" thing. If you have really chunky plates, or your huge favourite mugs, or very specific cutlery you want to fit in that 3rd rack you've been eyeing. Have seen how tight things can get if you love your tall drinking glasses and your...

    Best Buy Insignia appliances

That's a Midea made DW. The 3rd rack design is a dead giveaway. For example, in Germany, Ottos "Hanseatic" brand sells such DWs: https://www.otto.de/p/hanseatic-vollintegrierbarer-geschirrspueler-hgvi6082b14u7713db-14-massgedecke-1556621347/#variationId=1549083191 My mum had such a DW and it's...

Should I buy the Miele WXI860 over the WXF660 for its shorter cycle times?

QuickIntense really shouldn't leave clothing soaking wet. The final spin is shorter, true, but it's still full speed. The times I've used it on the 3 different generations of machines that have that cycle it spun just fine. That cycle is very much EU coded in its design regardless. It's ment to...

Heat pump dryers available in Australia

If it was 2 years ago and only a 1-way tumble Bosch, it might have been one of the "high speed" Bosches. Those run hotter than typical heat pump dryers - something like 70C towards the end of a cycle isn't unusual. All ELux dryers on the Australian website appear to be the last gen ones - the...

    Heat Pump Dryers!

Heat pump dryers - like typical dryers - can come in a LOT of different designs. The Whirlpool unit described on top was one of the first in US. The WP compact HP dryers are a EU design and aren't known to be fast here either. So double so in the US. The large Whirlpool HP dryers are - as far...

    Heat Pump Dryers!

Never said it was necessarily cheaper. Still don't get how natural gas is SO much cheaper - especially in Calli - than electricity. That's like a factor of 7.5. On the topic of natural gas emissions vs electricity emissions: A kWh of heat from natural gas emits 0.185kg of CO2. So that means...

    Heat Pump Dryers!

Saw that video, commented on it. They are more environmentally friendly even if they would break down sooner, simply because they are THAT much more efficient. Let's take - because we're talking US - a VERY fast heat pump dryer. The Miele Little Giant HP dryer takes just shy of 80min for an...
