Dishwasher advice - looking for a reliable model

Bosch and Miele Are two brands I know from Germany which work well. There are several factors involved in dishes getting clean, regardless of dishwasher. Have you checked these? 1) The warmer the water going into the machine, the better the pre-wash results. Make sure the water at the sink is...

Washing machine advice - I'm looking for a reliable washer

One should always get Either donor machines and strip them for parts and order new parts which get used up or wear out when one finds a vintage washer. The two neutral drain packs are soon going to be a bit harder to find - on the other hand, I have never had one fail. Those hockey pucks...

Washing machine advice - I'm looking for a reliable washer

Hi! Any Whirlpool DD (the ones with the rubber puck between the motor and the transmission), any Maytag before the 'Performa' junk. Any GE Filter-Flo after 1959 (pump re-design). Any Speed Queen before 2018 (sadly, the 2018/2019 Speed Queens were the only time they abandoned quality for trash...

Wringer Washer - Finding and Buying considerations

Transport the Maytag wringer washer upright only! I have fixed up a few for friends who live off-grid. Never had to do anything major - they were all only 50-70 years old and in good condition. There are lots of postings on how to fix every single aspect and I've even see people use shrink-wrap...

    Maytag LA612 & LA712 compatible parts?

This is fun! I love threads like this. Not much to offer, except - the only part I've ever seen fail which was hard to find on Maytags of that era was the timer. As to the electronic drying controls, not that impressed. Definitely the weakest design of an otherwise outstandingly well made...

Deciding between old GE and KitchenAid Hobart

Having had GE and KA. some thoughts Either will be better than a new machine. Both will need occasional repairs, start looking for donor machines. Both will have rust, no matter what. Laundress gave us some good notes on fixing that a while back. The GE only needs to have large items, olive...

    Speed Queen Happy Update

I'll get some pics Shot tomorrow. It's a good cleaner. One heck of a metal vibration somewhere, I think I didn't get the lid brackets quite right or something.

    Speed Queen Happy Update

That Explains it Thanks, Robert! I know very little about these machines. She does slow down from the final spin in the last minute and then coasts to a stop after that, so I was assuming some sort of braking - just weak. Makes sense there would be none, as the tub just coasts and coasts...

And there is a brake, just not The super fast Maytag style. Ten loads, happy!

    Speed Queen Happy Update

Again, thanks to all. We finally had time to open up the front, the schematic shows it's functionally a DA1090 with the full five temperature. That makes life a LOT easier. Done five loads today, so far, so good. The pump seems loud, but fast. There doesn't appear to be a brake? Oh, and, yes...

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

Rolls-rapide and all the others! Thank you! We finally got a working timer put together - between Dave's wonderful brass dogs which don't break if you look at them cross-eyed and a donation from a silent member, we got it going. I'm moving back to the GE Filter-Flos. It may be in the '80s...

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

I'll post more in the morning. I really don't know what is going on inside - it all works perfectly, no surprise there. I'll shoot pics and, if somebody can give me an 'existing' part number, I imagine things will go easier. Thanks, all.

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

John, thank you I get around the CW and CCW problem by keeping the little parts which force the motor to go one way or the other when I have to trash one - usually they're at the bottom of the rotor or the second gear. As to the rest, yeah, they were built to fail. I'll pull the entire timer...

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

Thanks! I'll follow up on the suggestions. No luck with the parts suppliers - they all don't know this model number and without it, I can't get past their starting fields. This is a picture of the motor with the right gear. I'm comfortable working on the innards of these, those dratted dogs...

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

Just the timer motor It is a Kingston '60' which is meaningless - it's the final output gear we need, the dogs on the takeoff spindle are (incredibly) still good. I'll post a pic of it later. I know it's about 1969/70 'cause of date stamps. It just seems nobody ever heard of this model. All...

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

First off, a million-billion thanks to Lorain Furniture - without Eugene, we'd be (insert un-ladylike term which would send some here to the fainting couches). His part came fast and was exactly the right one. Now, we have found a second one - same non-existent type of model number and...

    Two Filter-Flo Machines!

One is in near perfect cosmetic condition, the other has very much been rode hard and put away stinking and wet. The pretty one has its clutch stuck in LOW speed. Yes, I know that isn't possible and I'm the only person to ever experience it and, no, it's not the motor. So - I can't figure out...

    2021 washer quiz

Good questions! A) Filter-Flo. One with the copper pan and in PANK! or turquoise. B) No American front-loads. A vintage Miele, sure. A vintage Whirlpool or Kenmore without the thrash-o-matic? In PANK or turquoise? You betcha. C) Real Maytag, preferably center dial and any color but Avocado or...
