    Axion X Marks the Spot

I look at today's OXI additives and boosters in much the same light. Costco used to sell a 183 load box of Tide. Now it has been replaced by a 143 load box of Tide OXI. Just as washing performance declined in the late 60s with the removal of STPP, now it is is colder water and terrible washing...

    A RARE Youngstown....

Vintage D&M. Before I saw the second photo, I recognized the door latch as like the one on a friend's American Kitchens DW.

    Wardshouse dryer

What's with all of the flowers on the control panel? Does it being on the shipping skids mean that it is less likely to have rust?

It has the Harper center simmer burners like our 1952 Crown 40". The 4 little flames from the center could simmer a 6 quart Revere Ware Dutch Oven full of spaghetti sauce and the valve could be turned down even further to reduce the little flames to barely visible points of light.

What happened to the washer? Did they have an animal that marked territory on it?

    Axion X Marks the Spot

And the phosphate BS was largely a bow to the agricultural lobby who did not want to be blamed for phosphates in surface water from fertilizer run off and animal fecal run off in streams and rivers from poultry, dairy and commercial hog farms.

    Axion X Marks the Spot

X was used along with XK with names of detergents, like TIDE XK and presoak products to signify that they had enzymes. The main secret behind the enzyme products was that they were high in sodium tripolyphosphate at a time when mainstream detergents were pulling phosphates from their formulas...

    Kenmore portable (D & M) used once

Yes, it is a D&M Missouri intelligence. The POS was probably not priced at $400 in the store, let alone years later.

GM Makes A Strange Washing Machine

Don't you think that if you were going to make a video of something with which you only had a passing acquaintance that you would reach out to someone who knew the subject matter better for a little proofing before posting?

    Instant Vintage Kitchen

I remember that dishwasher that pulsed the timer motor for longer wash and dry times. It was from the early 70s and I saw it in the appliance department of the department store where I worked. I think it also had two covered detergent dispensers. I would imagine that this collection came out of...

    POD 12-17-2024 Preway Dishwashers

Gas Incinerators When I was a child, friends of ours who were a retired couple had a gas incinerator in their basement. It vented into the chimney of their old house that originally had a coal furnace. Caloric made an incinerator and I remember a brand by the name of Calcinator. When we...

    POD 12-17-2024 Preway Dishwashers

Does anyone recall if either of the consumer testing organizations tested the Preway Gas dishsmasher? I know that it used a spark plug to ignite the gas. Heating the wash water to 160F before the washing begins sounds not so good for proteins and starches. Seems like a prewash or a wash that is...

    FREE KM dryer

It looks like new inside, but maybe that is because they rarely ran it due to its inefficiency. It's probably 64 years old.

    What's in odor fighting detergent?

Yes, try Sodium Tripolyphosphate, enough to make the water feel slippery before the detergent is added, from a quarter to a half cup depending on the amount of water your machine uses and the hardness of the water. Once you remove the oil, the odor will go bye bye with it. As a bonus, the STPP...
