I just did the exact same thing, using a plug under the agitator. For the leaks: The silicone gel which I remember as kinda viscous, looser than gel, worked a treat. You'll know what kind to get. Just slather it on, and let it cure for a few days, and you'll be Easy Spinning again. Was shocked...
