Maytag's Tale of a Tub - 16mm Film - 1958

This week's film takes us to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry to see Maytag's exhibit on the history of home laundering..."The Tale of A Tub".

No doubt some of you are familiar with the exhibit which ran for several years. I believe it also saw a late 60's update, but haven't found anything more on that yet.

Wow Cory you digitized that sound film absolutely perfectly! And what a fun film that was to watch.

Question is your setup to do this portable enough to take it to a library to digitize films where they are considered reference material and you're not allowed to remove the films from the library building, like I've done with bringing my scanner to the library to scan vintage periodicals?

16 MM films back to life

Cory another great one, I seen this when I took a trip to Chicago. At the time there was no water or clothes in the tub, but the agitator did run. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy these.

I'm just glad you guys are enjoying these, and I believe Robert has the pamphlet for "Tale of the Tub" available in the ephemera library.

For some of these films, there may not be many copies left, and unfortunately, we're at the point where vinegar syndrome is destroying a lot of this. I'm trying to get it out to the world before it's gone, but there is quite a bit of post-production work.

I have some neat stuff in the pipeline that I wouldn't dare run through a projector due to warp and shrinkage; traditional methods would just tear the prints up, but results with my converter are very encouraging.

This is a really, really, really excellent adventure, Cory. Oh My God: a gargantuan see-through Maytag with the iconic black agitator washing ghost fabric in slo mo; are you kidding me?

Loved the people all dressed up in their now long gone Sunday best, the views of gentle speed versus normal, the spray rinse from on high--WOW--, the little girl lighting up the game board, and of course, best of all, the little boy playing with the washer, just like we all did. Treats galore.

When I was a kid, we subscribed to the World Book Encyclopedia Book of the Year. I remember when there was a picture of the exhibit in the book of the year. I used to look at it often. John and Jeff saw it too and when they went through Chicago decades later, they made a stop at the museum. The exhibit was long gone. Can you imagine?
