Fingers crossed, I took your advice

Cascade boil out is the ONLY detergent that worked in my Kenmore portable. Cascade platinum leaves that horrible film and finish tablets oversuds. More recently, I started using finish gel (I actually bought it to try just because the bottle was cute) during the prewash and cascade FBO in the...

    Vintage British General Electric heater

What I really, really, really wanted was a way to put back the cast iron radiators and the cast iron wood burning stove this apartment had originally. I'm still looking for a round Victorian stove (salamander), but of course it would be only for esthetics. Maybe I'd hide the tiny lasko heater...

    Vintage British General Electric heater

I have to agree with Aquarius1984. I love vintage appliances, I wish I could have as many as possible but safety comes first. That kind of space heater (or any space heater that have anything that "glows") are basically a time bomb. I dont understand how the USA, a "1st world" country that...

Always Wanted To Know How To Pronounce "Vernel"

Xiaomi That's super easy! it's pronounced "Shaw-me" in Chinese. (the "shaw" pronounced as in "Robertshaw") Although it means "Little Rice", the name is actually a prank with food names related to phones (Apple, Blackberry, Orange) + China and rice stereotype + the super impressive camera...

Always Wanted To Know How To Pronounce "Vernel"

It took me almost two years living in Los Angeles to realize I always pronounced "Wilshire Blvd" and "Ximeno Avenue" horribly wrong. (Thanks Kevin for correcting me years ago) Wilshire (and gosh, I lived in England for many years, shame on me) I was pronouncing like "Yorkshire". Btw, Google...

Always Wanted To Know How To Pronounce "Vernel"

I second what MrBoilwash said above. Global brands usually adapt the pronunciation according to the local markets. Even "Ford" is pronounced different. Here the "d" almost disappears In Brazil, for example, it sounds almost like "fordjee" Vita-mix, the "vita" is pronounced as in Italian "la...

    Kenmore portables

I have the Whirlpool thin twin with a NG dryer version of it and I simply adore it. I wonder how it would behave with this agitator. Is it better than the 8-vane agitator?

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

Matt Interesting but.... Where would I put the washer and dryer? The main reason for the concept is "finding a way to make a washer and a dryer fit in a kitchen"... Everything else is a bonus. Based on that, ok.... I have to make a washer and a dryer fit where a stove would fit. And of...

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

Panthera I totally understand the negative comments. Myself, I'd HATE to use it as the only resource. I usually cook already tossing the dirty items.in the dishwasher. If I had a decent sized kitchen, I'd probably cook with the dishwasher open. Now imagine, having to choose if I use the oven...

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

I love Los Angeles. 5 years living here and I love it as if I was born here. For me, the only dreadful thing is every single day I wish Ronald Reagan was alive, so I could personally strangle him to death. I don't know the exact story but AFAIK, the 110 original project was 2 or 3 times wider...

    Induction, baby!

"The more you spend, the longer it lasts." Not in the USA. The reality here is "The more you can charge for something, the merrier. The less it can last, also the merrier." It doesn't matter if it's a freaking expensive or silly cheap. People love to say China is bad, China makes terrible...

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

Yep, Los Angeles is home of the biggest non-sense contrast EVER. If you're super wealthy, you're probably have a monster mansion with non-sense excess space and part of your wealth will come from several matchbox units that cost a fortune.

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

@chestermike Exactly... I'm not going to reinvent the wheel... The technology exists since decades ago and they work extraordinarily well. Actually, I have no doubt the washer-dryer will be the easiest part of this project. However, nobody thought about tossing one in a "Frigidaire Flair"...

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

Well, regarding "needing" them is not up to me to decide. I've been receiving a number of contacts from landlords and apartment complex managers. It turns out that if you provide the appliances, you first eliminate the hassle of tenants hooking them up incorrectly and causing damages. There's...

    Brainstorming a modern Flair

Folks, lately I've been thinking about ways to make a washer-dryer fit in a tiny apartment kitchen. One concept came in my mind, using a design somewhat similar to a 30-inch Flair. Control panel: thinner, so a vent hood could fit, keeping the same standard height Oven: add convection and...

    1968 Frigidaire "giraffe" dryer

@washerlover Simple answer: the same way her arms would reach the controls on a splashguard-type panel, just the angle changes, basically.

Why do I have the feeling you're going to HATE this dishwasher?

    Black and Decker waffle iron/griddle

I had maybe 3 or four of those.... They're EXCELLENT but don't last too long (maybe 3 years max). They're inexpensive (at least in Brazil) so every time one died or it it was too dirty or ugly It's simply buy a new one at toss the old one away.

    Vintage Maytag's

... Knowing the snowflakes on Offerup that are offended about everything, I'm surprised the ad wasn't flagged yet and the person that posted it banned from OfferUp.
