16" Emerson Electric Oscillating Fan Model 29648

Thanks for the input guys.   It's those tiny parts that can be easily lost and their precise placement that concerns me.  I don't have a good work bench scene currently, so any work at all will need to wait for a dedicated space.  For now I just want to learn more about these impressive fans...

16" Emerson Electric Oscillating Fan Model 29648

Well Tom, if there's anything I've learned by reading about Emerson fans is that they are way over-built and seem to run forever.      The other thing I learned is that as a result of their precise but complex engineering, any disassembly or full tear-down should be done by an experienced...

16" Emerson Electric Oscillating Fan Model 29648

This fan was free on the "Buy Nothing" site.  I haven't done anything to it other than fool with its oscillation adjuster, which is one of its interesting features.  It runs and oscillates smoothly and quietly.  It's far quieter than my 12" GE Vortalex, which is about 20 years newer and a lot...

    Searching this site

Stan, I rarely use this site's app on my phone (I hate dealing with a miniature screen as much as I do using apps in general due to their security issues in addition to their random and unruly behaviors) but the on line version has a search field that's "enhanced by Google" and it will indeed...

    WANTED: 1960/61 Frigidaire Bake Element

Cory, if there's an independent appliance parts retailer in your area, call and ask if they can send elements out and have a new replica made.  I did that twice for the bake element on my mom's '49 Westinghouse.  The last time I ordered one was +/- 2005.  I walked into the sales area with...

    Vintage Jenn-Air Range

Pete, our range did exhaust to the outside through a modified foundation vent.  The house was built in 1957 and the kitchen didn't have an exhaust fan.  The JennAir's exhaust run was about 15' long.

    Vintage Jenn-Air Range

The pictured range is of 1980s vintage if not older.  We installed the 1990 dual fuel version of this range (with blue LED digital clock/readout) and used it for almost 18 years before we sold the house.  We bought an extra module with two gas burners because we rarely used the grill.  Due to...

Facebook will not let me in

In my area, shelters, rescue operations, and adoption centers all advertise on other platforms in addition to FB.  The Nextdoor site and other feeds regularly post pet listings and announcements for "overstock" events when all adoption fees are waived, etc.   I can't say I was surprised to learn...

Facebook will not let me in

DOWN With FB! Count your goddamned blessings!   The entities you want to deal with should have a presence outside of a single platform if they are truly interested in providing customer service, and their overall business acumen is questionable.  I would boycott them instead of navigating an...

My old GE fridge: first the grinding, now the warm food

Hi Wendy,   I'm not the expert that John is, but I think it would be wise to retain access to the evaporator coils until you can determine whether the defrost cycle is actually happening and the heating element is melting the condensate.    Also, I had a +/- 1970 Whirlpool frostless top...

    1958/59 GE Combination Refrigerator

The replies are definitely causing confusion, particularly regarding fans.  Now that it has been established that this isn't a Frost Guard (which was my immediate suspicion per the OP), I'd like to clarify that non-Frost Guard GE Combinations have just one (external) fan, which creates a "forced...

Can Haier really be so cheap?

This discussion has gotten me wondering.  Do new cars still come with an owner's manual (book)?  I'm thinking of Tesla in particular, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's accessed via the despicable screens that I'll wager have made everything more cumbersome, time consuming and distracting than...

Can Haier really be so cheap?

"If you want it on paper print it yourself."   Matt, that is exactly what I do for certain purchases.  For me, locating instructions in a real life manila folder is far more convenient and expeditious than firing up my laptop, and infinitely easier to work with than fumbling with a tiny phone...

Can Haier really be so cheap?

Thank Apple's arrogance for the disappearance of user guides/owners' manuals.    These days, it's just about pushing buttons (or tapping on screens) and figuring things out for yourselves.  We have been forced to accept this, because as we all know, fighting City Hall is a cakewalk compared to...

    Best Washer to Buy Used

I wouldn't even consider a TL machine if there's a king size comforter involved.  I've seen examples on this site and elsewhere on line of the large Duet washers that are 20 years old (or nearly) and are still working fine.    Our 2007 Duet HT was the best washer I've ever owned.  We only left...

    For your viewing pleasure

I agree with Tom that the Harper burners are a big plus on that range.  I had no idea the those burners were still around into the coppertone era.  I had a couple of mid '30s Wedgewoods that had Harper's "Speed and Simmer" burners and they were a pleasure to use.

    Kenmore dryer

Dryer That's a true 1975 version of the matching washer.  The the location of the selector knobs tells the tale.  I hope Melvin gets this one.  It's not easy to put together a matching set of this rare pair.
