Never Opened Mint In Box 1957 Philco Predicta TV Set Unboxing

Robert, I've surfed past this video a few times in the past week due to its length.  Thanks for advising on how far to FF for the reveal.  I absolutely hate my LG smart-ass TV, so any avoidable functions are appreciated.

    Kenmore washer

Dean, thanks for sharing that good troubleshooting info.    I'm glad to see so much interest in this rare bird from Kenmore's line-up.  It's full-featured but has an understated console like the models further down the line.  I always felt that the LK models from this period were over-wrought...

    Kenmore washer

James, I really wished we could have bought the matching gas dryer for my mom's washer.  Instead, the highly inferior matching dryer to the replaced Snorge washer remained in place for another 15 years or so.  Its ignition module was noisy, like pencils were tumbling around inside the drum, and...

    Kenmore washer

P.S.   Melvin, I forgot to ask:  why is this model infamous?  I apply that term to the '67 Norge that it replaced -- not a moment too soon.

    Kenmore washer

Bob, this is the model I helped my mom pick out in 1975 (they apparently didn't sell well; knobs above the console indicate model year 1974).  I'm pretty sure this machine was one notch below the Lady Kenmore.  Features included Quiet Pak transmission, Soak Selector for soak only or soak with...

    Presto Pressure Cooker Handle

Thanks Pete.    The handles aren't as shiny as the ones on my two aluminum Prestos of the same design (which should always be washed by hand), and I also have a stainless 4-quart Presto with the '60s/'70s style straight brown handle.  The lower handle is loose on that one too, but less so.  ...

    Presto Pressure Cooker Handle

In Henrik's recent thread I mentioned the 6-quart stainless Presto I recently picked up at a thrift store.  It works perfectly and attains pressure quickly, but the part of the handle that's attached to the pot is loose.  The single screw that holds it in place is somewhat rusted and will not...

    Bought a pressure cooker

Congratulations Henrik! I love my pressure cookers!  They're fun to use and your description of what they can do is spot-on!  My vintage ones are the cookers I use most often, and all but one were purchased at thrift stores.  I have sizes ranging from 4 quarts to 12 quarts, all are Presto stove...

    Early '50s +/- Philco Refrigerator

After contacting the seller via text as instructed in the listing verbiage, I've heard nothing.  I'm skeptical about this fridge being operational and won't be pursuing it any further.  If by any chance the seller does reply and confirms it cools properly, I'll provide an update.

    Early '50s +/- Philco Refrigerator

Good question, Eddie.  I've never seen mold that color, but it could be the trim material that effected the hue.    No replies on the MT forum yet, nor is there very much in the way of vintage Philco discussions.  One thing I'm thinking is that the supposed second cold control is actually some...

    Early '50s +/- Philco Refrigerator

I can't pursue this fridge until next week, but I'm a little concerned about capacity.  I suspect the "6" in the model number could be an indicator.  I also want it to be running and down to proper temperature when I view it.  The pix in the ad show some scattered contents, but no frost...

    Early '50s +/- Philco Refrigerator

Eddie, I did look at the ad you linked, but had to dash out and just now viewed a bunch more.  I found one ad that pictured the same freezer doors and cold controls as on the subject fridge, and presumably it appeared in a 1940 issue of The Saturday Evening Post (see link). This would explain...

    Early '50s +/- Philco Refrigerator

Eddie, I remember seeing what I think was a pristine version of a similar model in a discussion sometime over the past year or two.  I recall having the same question as you regarding the inner door, and it was stated that it opens with the main door or can stay in place for what I assume is...

    Early '50s +/- Philco Refrigerator

This fridge showed up on CL and I'm tempted to replace my on-again/off-again '52 Kelvinator with it.  I'm wonderiing what's up with the two different controls above the freezer section.  One looks like the master cold control, but the other one with 32 & 50 and Warm & Cold settings is something...

    My little bug

Great job, Greg!  I know the original air cooled Beetles are fairly easy to work on, but have no idea about whether the same applies to the newer generation.  Your determination is admirable.  I wouldn't take on a repair like this anymore, for a few reasons.  If I could, I'd tackle my 2003...

    smartphones pics and videos

Pillows are definitely a job for front loaders.  I don't think that even a thrash-itself-to-an-early-death Norge TL of the same vintage could do any better than that Maytag.

A real estate listing with a sense of humor

Pete, I hope this means Waco whacko Joanna Gaines and her ilk will need to find a new and completely different line of work.

    1970 GE bottom mount

Built like a refrigerator John, I wouldn't mind having a hot guest warm up my coil, bottom mount or top . . . and I'm sure you can relate.

sagging door on a 1953 GE combo fridge

For what it's worth at this point, having now seen the type of hinge you're dealing with, my advice to focus on the bottom hinge doesn't apply.  Have you tried washers instead of paper or other material?  That may allow for fine tuning.

sagging door on a 1953 GE combo fridge

Have you tried shims behind the hinges themselves?  I recall reading about a GE from this period that had a door problem which was corrected in that manner.  The owner of the fridge had removed the door and didn't use the factory paper shims when reinstalling it.  She had kept the shims, so she...
