    a few classics

Mickeyd's question Ireland was rather the same as the UK in terms of washers - wringer washers were popular in the 50s and sixties - various manufacturers, but generally Hotpoint (known as Gala in Ireland) and Hoover models, as well as some american models - my Grandmother had a Speed Queen...

    Wanted!

Very welcome visitors Hi to all We had a very pleasant afternoon here in the sticks - once 'he who must be obeyed' had disappeared to watch a film, we set to getting the two-some up and running, and indeed they did work very neatly (give or take a rather noisy pump wheel). Gary - the...

    a few classics

Hi Mark Beens ages since I've seen you on here - hope all is well! The Philips looks good - my aunt had the gold version of that one! Does it still run? Any sign of any Galas or GE Filter Flos over there? David

    Wanted!

Got it! Hi guys It's home - and outside it looks tidy (pics to follow when I find the camera). It seemed to go fine to start with, but then started to make a loud squealing noise - any ideas Oovaah experts? D :-) PS - Mathew - can you text me your mobile no - I've lost it...ta!

Operation Matchbox Rescue! - Hoover 3236H

Brilliant! Hey Paul, Gary and Mathew Just fantastic to see one of those Hoover Automatics again - my Mum's best friend (who sort of half brought me up) had one through to the mid 80s. I'm sure that you'll have no problems bringing it back to life, and the rust won't be an issue. There's a...

    Wanted!

Lol - that's be eminently sensible of course Chris, but why use a bucket when you can buy another appliance! Mike and Rob - a Hoover (or Oovaah as the other-half would have it in Valley's Welsh) has just come up on the bay, so I'll have ago at getting it. Love the Hotpoint idea more of...

    Wanted!

Hi all - this is one that UK friends might be able to help with! I've just done a load of wooley-jumper hand-washing (yes, some of us still handwash!), and having soaked the laundry room floor hauling wet woolens to and from the top-loader, I've decided I need a spin-dryer. Normally there are...

why top loaders popular in the usa

We actually have top-loaders in the British Isles too I believe that this is a question of market-driven production. Top-loaders were quite popular here from the 1960s through to the 1970s at a point when automatics were NOT the norm, and considered luxury purchases. Originally (in the 60s)...

A couple of VERY painful to look at pics.........

How sad... What a shame to see two great machines in forgotten decay! I remember that Hoover so well - my Mum's best friend had one til the late 1980s - I'm sure Mathew would love to see it rescued! As for the 1509/05 (or maybe it is a 1509/01 without the interlock!) - I'd love to rescue...

    Possible New Washer!

Hi there I've got the Aqualtis Dryer which is rather good - slow in comparison to a vented job, but good none the less. I'd suggest the Aqualtis washer, but have no experience of it as this is a top-loader house! Have you considered a Maytag front-loader washer?

    old Automatics from October 1977

Any more pages Hi Keith Really interesting to see the 1977 report - did you get any of the subsequent test pages? Ta D

    Hotpoint Top Loader 1504

Hi Keith! Hard to say why the 1500/1501 had the warm rinse only to be dropped with the 1502, but I can only guess that perhaps consumers found the warm rinse an extravagance? Does it fill warm or heat for this rinse? Someone might have a consumer report from 1964 that gives the hot water...

    Hotpoint Top Loader 1504

Hey Rich - another fab machine! Hi Rich and all on AW What a fantastic machine – really good to see a 1504 once again, and in good nick for a machine that is as old as me!! It might be worth pointing out a few things about this range – US members have spotted the GE Fliter-flo connection, but...

Bosch Logixx 8 - *really* annoying touch buttons

Bosch aren't all they used to be... I had a Bosch Fl in the previous house and have to say it was incredibly poor...those touch buttons were incredibly annoying! The washer was in the kitchen, so these buttons regularly got brushed and options changed mid-cycle. Apart from that, the motor...

OLD F&P, same as UK Hotpoint TL

Hotpoint 1500 series down-under Hi all To answer Mike's question - yes the F&P made Hotpoint spun at the same speed at the UK model (1050rpm). The machine was made under license from AEI, and in fact the rating plates even acknowledged that it was an AEI-GALA design. The first model was a...
