OLD F&P, same as UK Hotpoint TL

This is a New Zealand model, it was based on the UK Hotpoint top loader design.

There are several examples of this model and similar machines on NZ website www.trademe.co.nz

This is not mine, I just stumbled on the ad whilst looking for something else (which I haven't found yet...)

Asking about a Launderoll machine? IIRC her Grandfather had helped design it, it was a TLHA machine but none of us had heard of it before?

I take it by the control panel these machines didnt have a heater?? and Chris do you know if the spin speed would be the same as the UK Hotpoints 1050rpm??

They certainly where a great stable design, up until their demise in the 90`s..and we have at least one UK repairer that can completely re-build these machines better than Hotpoint produced them from the last batch!!! heres the inside of the 1501 which will be going to the repair shop & spa next year!!!

Hotpoint 1500 series down-under

Hi all

To answer Mike's question - yes the F&P made Hotpoint spun at the same speed at the UK model (1050rpm). The machine was made under license from AEI, and in fact the rating plates even acknowledged that it was an AEI-GALA design. The first model was a re-working of the Hotpoint 1502 and was marketed under a variety of brands - Savaday, Kelvinator, GE, Fisher and Paykel and others. The top-of-the-line models had a heater. The original Savaday was visually very similar to the 1502 - the link below is to a previous thread about this model from a year or two ago.

F&P also designed a matching dryer - such a shame that Hotpoint never thought as far as reciprocating the license and bring the dryer back home!

PS - Mike - I love the blue gyrator - so cool to see one of those again - I'm amazed at the filter tray though, I thought the tapered centred only appeared with 1509 and was sure that the earlier models (1500-1504) had a straight centre like the GE filter-flo. Look really cool though - can't wait to see and hear it in action!

Seen at least one in Australia

I have seen at least one of these here in Oz badged as a "Kelvinator" and one was featured on a Tv commercial many years ago, but i have not come across one recently.

Not about the history or restoration, but of general use of a tired machine.

The thread was started back in 2006, so i doubt the machine will exist anymore.

The reason for this sudden surge in interest in these machines is that, via Youtube, I have been contacted by a gent called Dean who lives in New Zealand.

He had stumbled across the vids of our Hotpoint 96702 and he instantly made the association with our UK machines and the ones he remembers from years gone by.

He also pointed me in the direction of an advert, the link to which i have attached below.

Hotpoint SavaDay

Hi David, thanks for the info and previous thread, dont remember that but on checking the date was away!!!The turquoise agi is from a Hotpoint 1466 twinny, I was just seeing how it would look given that the filter inlet and original agi screw knob are turquoise anyway!!

Good snippets of info there Paul, but quite a wobbly washer, I wonder if it was just OOB load or really was on its way out, could you imagine what Mark would make of it!!!
