    Maytag question?

GE Clutches GE clutches depend on friction to adjust the speed. The three/four speed clutch is a really good illustrator of this. When the speed solenoids are activated it causes one of the sets of clutch shoes to slip outward away from the spinning motor shaft and attached drive shoes. Less...

    Whirlpool Transmissions Oil Question

Hear oil I used gear oil in one of my GE transmissions and it’s super smooth and quiet now for two years.

    Nice Maytag Set Free!

One-Speed I had the LA308? Same machine but larger capacity. Great machine! Single speed that had four water levels and three wash temps (cold rinses). Delicate cycle was intermittent agitation and Perm Press was very short spin times. Rock solid machine.

    Kenmore BD question

Kenmore 70 I can’t remember what some of the hallmark differences are between the 70 and 80 series machines as they always seemed so similar. Porcelain tops maybe? This one was a popular model for sure with the four water levels and Penta-Swirl. But you upgrade to the 80 series and you get...

    Maytag Washer/Dryer save

De-mucked The washer had a musty smell to it. Honestly, it’s so east to pop the top on these, remove the tub ring, basket, balance ring, etc. why not give it a good scrub? Barkeepers Friend is a wonderful thing for these porcelain surfaces and gets them looking new again with minimal elbow...

    Maytag Washer/Dryer save

Thanks! She is so excited about these. I tested the washer today and it runs beautifully. Quiet and no leaks. Very clean underneath. Inside has the typical muck but I took time to pull the tub out and give everything a good scrub. Beautiful and shiny white porcelain basket shows very little...

    Maytag Washer/Dryer save

My next door neighbor, Rosanne, has complained for years ever since she traded in her 1979 Maytags for a new HE set of Hotpoint machines. A few weeks ago she came to me saying she had enough and she wanted an older Maytag set again. The new Speed Queen TC5 is too expensive and she just wanted a...

    Favorite Agitator?

Dadoes You’re correct. I went back and edited my post when I realized I accidentally said penta-vane.

    Favorite Agitator?

Lots of good choices I have always enjoyed the GE straight vane agitator for the V-16 models as well as the larger 18-lb machines. Roto-swirl definitely does a great job for the Kenmore. Penta-swirl just looks so sleek and also does a really nice job.[this post was last edited: 4/11/2021-11:36]

    Frigidaire 1-18 parts...

Take care of yourself I’m in absolutely no hurry. I have a 1-18 that very well could be parted out too but if there’s a good transmission out there then I might be able to save it. She can just sit there and be just fine. Hope you get well soon!

Parts Are you pulling the transmission as well? If the bearings are in decent shape I’d be interested in purchasing the transmission assembly

Has anybody seen a well and truly fully automatic dryer

1975 Lady K Basically you just set the temperature (no heat, low heat or high heat) and toggle to your selected dryness level and hit start. Only other options we’re adding the post-cycle intermittent tumbling to prevent wrinkles and a variable level end-of-cycle signal. The times dry options...

    GE Dryer

MOL but a nice dryer This is the standard capacity. I have a similar 1970 version of this with the lighted dial. The “big door” models were 29” wide if I’m not mistaken.

Turbine oil for WP BD washing machine ( early 1980's)

Zoom Spout John L and Jason use it liberally and so did I. Works like a charm on spin tubes and bearings and is safe for the seals. Turns a clunky old washer into a quiet and smooth machine.

    1st Generation DD Whirlpool set

If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is the first generation DD Whirlpool washer based on the prototype model that John L has. The only Whirlpool model with a spin-drain? Looks like a nice pair. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/350692852815502/

First time KitchenAid Superba owner seeking advice

Water heating Yes. There are pauses for water heating on this model. Soak and scour cycles have a couple of long pauses (cooler the water = longer pause). A light illuminates on the panel indicating the water is being heated. Sani-cycle adds water heating on the final rinse as well.

First time KitchenAid Superba owner seeking advice

KDS-20 (60) I have the portable model of this dishwasher. I believe mine is from the early 80’s, about 1980 or 1981. The only issue I’d ever had with this machine was the filter screen in the inlet valve becoming clogged. Once I cleaned up the inlet valve, wash performance greatly improved...
