    Has anyone else heard this???

Not a ban... To be completely clear, the government isn't banning ANY kind of bulb, period. What they are doing is mandating efficiency standards that, as of today, simply can't be met by current high-wattage incandescent bulbs.. but COULD BE at some point in the future. And as usual...

Lime away in the washing machine.

I've used it in my FL before to get out some chalky white buildup, and other than sudsing up - a lot - it seemed to do the trick. That was a few years ago and no problems since. Importantly, did it help the issue? Did the SS tub look shinier when you were done?

Has anyone actually seen Corning Ware Pyroceram or VISIONS cookware explode?

We had a Pyrex casserole self-destruct in the oven - darn thing just shattered w/o anyone touching it and made an understandably awful mess. Also had a Pyrex measuring 4-cup shatter the handle off. It is my understanding that the once-legendary Pyrex hasn't been made with real borosilicate...

Poll - Fabric softener used on towels

Nope - swore it off almost entirely after I started breaking out and the kids started itching. Now the only things I use FS on are silk shirts which have to be dried to avoid looking like a wadded up paper towel, but come out stiff as a board without FS.

    Mrs. Meyers & Vaska

Agree - Vaska is a nice product for very lightly soiled items, few of which we get around our house, apparently! I still have the last big bottle of it we bought, and I use it for very delicate & wool items that shouldn't be washed with a full-on enzyme detergent -- none of which belong to my...

    Good Housekeeping's picks

Yeah, I'd posted a message about a possible Haier - Bosch hookup a while back. Anybody know anyone at Bosch or in New Bern to see if they're producing the Haier models there now, since Bosch is getting out of the full-sized business? If anyone's seen the Haier in person, is the drum tilted...

    Haier ? Bosch?

Well in this case it might not be a bad thing - if they managed to outsource the production to the New Bern Bosch plant as sort of a "private label" deal then those folks in NC get to keep their jobs! And if these are based on the recently introduced (then discontinued) Vision series then...

    Haier ? Bosch?

OK, so Tide is running a promotion to win this new W&D set from Haier. Is it just me or do they sort of strongly resemble the Bosch Nexxt architecture machines (perhaps Vision ones?) I know Bosch is exiting the full-sized W&D business - could Haier have picked up the IP and designs to get a...

    Country Laundromat

Correction - the machine I remember was actually a Philco-Bendix "Double Load", pictured in the video in the link below.

    Country Laundromat

We had a Norge laundromat in my hometown in Ark. complete with Norge Ball just like that one outside. I remember being fascinated with their huge green (?) "Heavy Duty" FL machine back in the 70s.

What is your dream vintage washer dryer set that you would love to own one day and in what color?

A906 Given the floor space and funds I'd love a fully-restored Maytag A906 push-button washer and matching dryer (which model# was that?) Love the whole "pushbutton future" vibe and clean control panel.

    Persil Megaperls and Gel FS

Experimenting with the newer Tide products to find something both more economical for a family of 4 which does a *ton* of laundry (thanks in no small part to our two outdoor-playing boys), as well as something that can actually be bought at a regular store at 9pm at night, so to speak. I love...

    Persil Megaperls and Gel FS

No itchies from any of the Persil products after nearly a year of use! And that's in a house with both little kids and eczema & psoriasis, so results don't get much better for us. I actually used the Color Gel as a pre-treater (in a little squeeze bottle) and I've never seen anything that...

    Persil Megaperls and Gel FS

Everyone, (Hope I'm not violating any Forum rules here - apologies in advance if I am...) Selling my stash of Persil - I have a brand new unopened box of Megaperls Color (~$44 retail), new unopened bottle of Color Gel (~$20 retail) and an opened, 3/4++ box of Megaperls Universal (same size box...

    dishwasher issues

My KA starting doing that after the switch to phosphate-free detergents, especially when using Cascade's All-in-One pacs. I ended up doing four things: 1) Service call - found out the food disposer was about shot and gunked up, and got it replaced under extended warranty 2) Cleaning the DW...

    New Tide Compact Powder

I just got a box of the Ultra Tide with Bleach HE (less than $12 @ Wal-Mart) and y'all are right, the "small" scoop is still way bigger than I was using with SA8 for years. Still, they rate the box I got at 63 loads (I think) at line "2" which seems like quite a bit of detergent. Based on how...

    New Tide Compact Powder

Even though I don't use it any more due to them messing with the formula to the point of irritation, Amway's SA8 has been "compact" for literally decades before Tide started. I've had really good luck with Coldwater Free HE (liquid) recently, but I'd be interested in trying the Bleach powder...

    Speed Queen FL w/ Heater

Laundromat Yeah, that's why the last time I took something to use the big mega-machine at the laundromat I ran an empty/hot load of nothing but Charlie's Soap (big dose) and Lysol liquid, to clean out the machine before I put anything in there. Added $5.25 to the cost, obviously, but still...

Clairol Son Of A Gun Hairdryer

Good grief, I had one of those... about 25 years ago... when I had hair.

    Dirty Glasses

Ran into that problem a while back when using the Cascade All-In-One packs - always seemed to be the glasses in the back corners of the upper rack ended up with dried-on crud inside them that wasn't there when they went in. Switched over to the (at the time phosphated) Finish Quantum Powerball...
