Laundress' Reply to me... Hi "Big Apple"! Je parle francais aussi! I stand corrected by your explanation of the way EDTA works, and appreciate it. I am by no means a chemist, but pride myself on years of experience with laundry detergents. I have to wonder why, then, do many soap bars...

P.O.D. 10/19/11: Bendix WONDERTUB Washing Machine

We had a Bendix Economat I remember only too well, back in 1955 as a 3-year-old, the hand-wringing we used to do(Mom, Grandma & I) to prepare the wash for the 1955 Frigidaire Condenser dryer we had! That Economat washed well, but that "Metaxaloy" tub was bizarre. I have, somewhere, the...

    phosphate detergents

Use of Phosphates in Detergent As some of us laundry-lovers are pretty well-informed, phosphates have been banned for sale and manufacture in today's powder detergents. While some liquids in the past, such as all and Wisk, had phosphates, they never "kept too well" in the bottle. It should...

Reply #22 by gorenje Ingemar, The one ingredient "tetraacetildiammina..." is TAED, it is a mineral-harnessing(chelating) compound which keeps the hard water minerals in solution away from laundry. The "carboxymetylcellulosi..." is Carboxymethylcellulose-this is a soil-suspender used in...

Purex with Zout Liquid Mrcleanjeans reply #1 Hi David, I bought a bottle of the new Purex with Zout liquid at "Tarzhay". It was on sale for 4.99 and I had a 1.00-off coupon, so I couldn't resist. I find it doesn't clean white laundry so well even in hot water, in my Samsung WA448AAW...

For the guys that ONLY wash in cold water

Re: Reply 83 from gorenje Hi Ingemar! I am sorry, I meant to say that people who insist on using hot water for chlorine bleach, that is not effective as we were told growing-up. Your regular "Bright Clean Cheer" powder may not make so many suds because your water is so hard! It has no...

For the guys that ONLY wash in cold water

Reply #7 from "gorenje" Cold Water Bleaching Ingemar, for those who really know, chlorine bleach works BEST in cold water. Using only hot water as an effective solution is a myth. I would never use "tap cold" water that's quite frigid, to do ANY laundry, but the chlorine bleach would work best...

For the guys that ONLY wash in cold water

Replies #6 & #9 I am glad bosch2460 knows that currently, only Cheer powder contains NO optical brighteners, as all the liquid versions now do have them. The "Cheer for Darks" liquid has no optical brighteners, but is extremely sudsy. To Roscoe62, there is currently no Cheer HE powder...

EVERYTHING GM! Caprice means "changing at a whim" or always switching your mind at a moment's notice. Maybe there was a NYC restaurant by that name, I as a native will have to check.
