    Introduce a friend

Hello and welcome :). So what are you looking for in a modern machine? I know what you mean about long wash times. Fortunately, lots of modern models offer ways to reduce the wash time. Bosch have Variospeed and Speedperfect buttons that reduce the wash times on the main cottons & synthetics...

    What's better - Hotpoint 95 or Hoover Logic 1200?

Hoover, definitely. They were far more consistent than Hotpoint. The quality control at Hotpoint was dire. If you got a good one, it could last you a lifetime. If you got a Friday afternoon model, it would be nothing but trouble. And let's not forget the 95 series' infamous side strips and...

    Tesco/Sainsburys Own Brand Detergents

The store-brand own detergents tend to wash very well, but are heavy on the bleach. I think nearly all of them are 15-30% oxygen based bleaching agents - good for whites and hot washes. Whereas Persil has a lower bleach content but higher surfactant and ezyme content, making it a better "all...

not sure if this machine is based off a Hoover model That's a Hoover A3110 but branded as "Electra". Electra was the exclusive brand to the old Electricity Board shops and they were always made by other companies. Hoover, Creda, Philips and Servis all made machines that were rebadged as...

Ab Fab This Wheel's on Fire

I can absolutely vouch for AGA's being a total pain the ass to cook on. My in laws have one and they also have a seperate gas hob. There's no heat control on an AGA. You're restricted to a boiling plate and a warning plate. The idea is that you move the food around the AGA rather than changing...

    Powder v liquids

Another reason I avoid liquids, they're absolutely jam packed full of chemical preservatives like formaldahyde that don't biodegrade, end up back in the water cycle and have a damaging and lasting impact on aquatic life. Liquids and softeners, being water-based, will go stagnant quickly if a...

Sheridan should have married an English lass I don't think our Hyacinth would want Sheridan marrying a Lancashire lass!

    Powder v liquids

I've personally never found a liquid that cleans anywhere near as well as a powder, though I do think having a liquid about the place comes in handy. The only thing I use liquid on is delicates, jeans and if I'm washing something new for the first time. Everything else gets the bio powder treatment.

Oh, you're not that near me then - I'm near Skipton. Although I was in Bury with work not so long back, we have an office there.

Illingworth Halifax Liam, I had no idea you were local to me! Where abouts are you? I was in Halifax just a few weeks ago to check out the ADA/Philips display at the Calderdale Industrial Museum. We have every type of supermarket local to us, it's insane. They're all within spitting distance...

How many loads of laundry do you do per week?

About 14 loads a week. Fourteen loads!? Gosh, Liam, how many people are you washing for?

New surf black liquid and pods

I really can't see how they're going to clean The same way all other non-bio liquids clean - high surfactant count. A detergent must contain surfactants to actually clean. One reason why Persil non bio tablets are so poor is because they contain 15-30% bleaching agents but less than 5%...

How many loads of laundry do you do per week?

I have a bit of an odd laundry system. I do it in 2 week cycles. I don't like to wash unless I have a full load. I try to make effort at home to reduce waste - we're big on recycling and eco/green cleaning products and cosmetics too. Anyway, there's 2 of us at home and both of us work full...

Washing Machines being made in the UK again - Ebac

Rob, the split tub design is to make any potential repairs easier. Lots of modern machines can't have their bearings replaced and some can't even have their heat elements replaced without replacing the whole tub. This will make any repairs quicker, easier & cheaper. 2000 was the estimate for...

Washing Machines being made in the UK again - Ebac

They've only just been launched, Richard. Currently limited to northern, independent retailers. The range and the scale of the launch has been very much scaled back from what it was originally going to be. The launch that was originally due in September 2015 was going to be huge, with Currys...
