    GE Filter Flo Question

Repair manuals are still readily available. Filter-Flos are the easiest to work on, IMO. Probably an easy fix. Bobby in Boston

    General Electric 1-18!

Don't worry. I wouldn't just toss it out without taking all the good parts. I'm going to do eveything I can to get her running, but that rust sure looks scary! I might have to drag Jetcone over to help if I can't solve the leak. Be warned, Jon! Bobby in Boston

    General Electric 1-18!

As said, I took the cabinet off the 1-18 this weekend. I had to slice every single screw (all 14) with a Dremel to free them. The bottom base plate looks very good, so does the mechanism. The trap on the other hand, does not look so good. It appears rust took over on the outer tub flange, and...

Ok, you figure this out, she lost the agitator when washing a comforter?

Could it have had the handwash agitator like the Hotpoints? I would like to think this was the situation, as I don't like to think anyone could be that stupid. Bobby in Boston

Is this the Frigidaire washer-sock commercial everyone is looking for?

Ha Ha! I haven't seen that commercial in years. Now I really have to fix that damn 1-18! Thanks Pat! Bobby in Boston

What your secret for a really good cup of coffee?

Kona! Has anyone tried real Kona beans? It is to DIE for, but very, very expensive and pretty hard to come by. I was lucky once! Bobby in Boston

POD 01-04/10 Bendix Tumble Action Washer

Lawrence: It probably would as it's a very thorough washer. It uses lots of water and sloshes the clothes around well. It just wouldn't spin the blood out of them worth a darn. Bobby in Boston

    General Electric 1-18!

Is a drain sump leak common? Could the O ring have failed? I need to get the cabinet off to really check it out. What about the black dust? Any expert advice will be greatly appreciated. I'm a fish out of water if it's not a Maytag! Bobby in Boston

    General Electric 1-18!

The mechanism does not show any signs of leakage.

    General Electric 1-18!

There appears to be some fine black stuff underneath the mechanism. Is this normal, or is one of the bearings going? The spin was fairly quiet.

    General Electric 1-18!

Fast forward to last week: I fired her up, but as she was filling, I noticed a puddle forming fast around the back left corner. I put her into drain fast. I opened up the front panel (which was a project in itself: all the cabinet screw heads stripped at the first turn.) I noticed the water was...

    General Electric 1-18!

It was a bit dirty, and has a bit of rust on the side that was closest to the laundry tub. Otherwise it's in fine shape.

    General Electric 1-18!

Happy New Year Everyone! Last year I was perusing Craigslist and saw an ad for an "old General Electric washer, $40". It had a picture which was fuzzy, but it looked like a Frigidaire to me. I called, and a nice lady said she was sorry, it should have read General Motors! So off I went in the...

What your secret for a really good cup of coffee?

Eight O'Clock coffee beans, a 60's KitchenAid Coffee Mill, and either the Silex vacuum pot or the GE/Universal Permetal percolator. Bobby in Boston

POD 01-04/10 Bendix Tumble Action Washer

I've got the bolt down Dexter from 1990, but I don't have a picture to show. It's in NY. This is the one with the three speed, one rotation direction tranny. It operates on 120V. Very weak final spin, only ~420 rpm's. Fairly noisy too. Bobby in Boston

*RIP* Sunbeam C50 "CoffeeMaster" Coffee Maker

Launderess: Can you post a pic of your dead model? I'd be glad to keep watch for one at flea markets for you. I see the old chrome vac pots often enough. Bobby in Boston
