I got as far as the "good" ratings for washing performance and energy efficiency. Apparently taking 35 minutes to do the job instead of 80 or 90 means nothing to CR.

What's strange imo is that there doesn't seem to be much relation between output wattage and actual cooking performance. E.g. a 1980 Panasonic was our daily driver for 30+ years (until it finally developed door latch problems). and according to specs it's only a 700W unit. But frozen food cooked...

Man that's the truth. I'll skip the story about the other half insisting on getting an 8 x 3.5' armoire in our bedroom, other than to say it eventually involved cranes and partial disassembly of the house.

In our house the perpetual appliance swapping is limited to vacuum cleaners.. a canister for bare wood, steam vac for the tile, upright vac for the carpets, three car & portable vacs for different purposes etc. They could easily fill a closet and we're not even collectors. :)

Launderess, great info. Thanks. Among the NSF's tests for clothes washers are one for sanitation performance (P172) and another for allergy reduction (P351). The sanitation test requires a 99.9% kill rate for germs and a water temp of 140F, while the allergy reduction protocol is less stringent...

As far as we've ever read, 140F is and has always been considered the minimum temp for sanitary washing in industry/commercial standards, in absence of bleach. Again if this is bad info I'm hoping someone will correct it.

John, the problem is that a certain amount of heat loss occurs between the tank and whatever appliance it's servicing. At least from years of advice from Launderess and others here, the traditional wisdom is that 140F is required to kill most nasties, anything less and some kind of bleaching...
