I want the range I'm digging 80's style lately.

    New machine? Admiral ATW4475XQ

At Home Depot website and discovered that there is a model ATW4475XQ in addition to venerable bargain DD ATW4475VQ. The specs say the tub size is slightly smaller 3.1 vs 3.2, but otherwise I can't discern any difference. VQ already has ATC, so its not that, and the only other difference is that...

    Scored a Toastmaster

I don't eat toast that often but my toaster oven is great at everything except toasting bread. I got an apparently unused Toastmaster B700, made in Booneville, MO, today at Goodwill for $5.95. No crumbs, stains, scratches, anything, and works like a charm. Nothin' fancy, but nice simple...

    Slow agitation, fast spin

Norgetags My 94/95-ish PAV series Performa had it and it was one of the features that I really miss.

    Updated Sun Products Site

powders to try I was visiting the 'rents last weekend and stopped in Family Dollar, which has a rather extensive selection of powders compared to what I'm used to. I was tempted to try Surf, but I witheld. Bought some Oxydol at another store though. I'm gradually depleting my liquid stash, and...

What Is It With Sheets These Days

my favorite sheets Came off a clearance shelf at Target of all places. I don't know what the thread count is, but it was high. What I like about them is that the fabric feels tight and beefy and substantial. When folded up they are notably heavy. I would not call them "soft" or non-soft...

    Brick Veneer Homes

Alexandria also Concrete block and brick, steel I-beams in the middle, with joists running front to back and sitting on the beams. They don't build 'em like that anymore. Yes bricks have cracks in them, but the house had made it 60 years and I figure it will be at least another 60 before its...

End of An Era - RIP Jane Russell, Aged 89

Miss Russell Needed "18 Hour support". I remember the ads from my youth. LOL. RIP

    Trash Compactors ??

I just looked on sears.com holy crap I had no idea how expensive these were. I figured maybe $150, but they're more expensive than a lot of dishwashers.

    Washer Dryer Filters

What to buy today? I like my 27" Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer with the filter in the front. I dislike top-mounted Whirlpool filters because of the mess. 1. Since I hang a great deal of my clothes, I would appreciate opinions about modern washers and whether any have decent lint-filtering...

    Admiral!

Admirpool Norgmiral and Norgetag I have the 4475VQ and it is ok. Why pay more. I am not as knowledgable as most ppl on this board, but the Admirals in the pics are the same as my previous machine a PAV Maytag Performa, aka Norgetag. Although it is scorned, I miss that machine. I miss the...

    Lets Go Ultrawash!

I have one! Like Jims in the photo, except mine is built-in and black. I fear the day it dies :-( I keep trolling street for a lower rack since mine is getting rusty in places, but so far no luck.

    Modern Maid!

good point about the knobs. I have seen many M/M Cook & Clean's, but they have always been electric.

    Modern Maid!

the microwave Looks like the Magic Chef countertop microwave I had. It was kind of a big deal, because it was my first appliance purchase. It was rather slow at about 700 watts, but did the job and had logical and easy to use controls. IIRC it was still made in US, Alabama I think, which was...

    Hammond organs

Copacabana Oh yes I've seen that one! I have wasted WAY too much time watching people play organs on youtube.

    Hammond organs

Gary, I know most have the rhythms. If I saw the right deal at the right moment, I might go for another make, but there's something about the cheesy attraction of a Lowrey that I like! They're the organs that drew a crowd and were played outside the stores in the mall of my youth. Plus, some of...

    Kill-A-Watt Meter Deal

Almost just bought.... But I have a pretty good idea where my power vampires are, so I'm going to use the $16 to buy some switches, power strips and timers instead.

    Hammond organs

I want to learn to play! I've been thinking for a long time of learning to play keyboards and I have a strange attraction to cheesy Lowreys with the canned rhythms and stuff. I just want to be able to play renditions of pop songs and fun stuff like that at parties. Lady Gaga anyone? I have...

    Detergent thread 2011

Gain HE powder availability In response to a comment about finding Gain HE powder. It is tricky to find in my area (WDC/Northern VA) but I have had to make a few family trips back to mulletville, and Family Dollar reliably has it at $5 a box. I was in a Big Lots and I think they had it also...

A good brand of detergent is......

Gain HE powder Upon recommendation of somebody here, I tried Gain HE powder, even though I have a regular top loader. I really like it, seems to work well, rinses clean, and doesn't have the too-heavy scent that I experienced with Gain liquid.
