    Dryer balls, thingies, whatever.

I recently heard of some sort of softener ball that when placed in the dryer is supposed to keep clothes from getting stiff and release static and lint as well. I'm familiar with the liquid softener dispenser balls that go in the washer and release softener during spin, but this is something...

'My name is Maytagbear, and I am an idiot'

We call that having a brain fart around here. At least those minor goofs and screw ups can be easily rectified. My all time mechanical brain fart came while stuffing a freshly assembled 454 Rat motor in my old 72 Nova. My Bro and I massaged the headers a bit for clearance and set the big block...

Do It With Dormeyer ... Blenders!

My Bormeyer is shaped like the chrome one, but enameled instead of chrome. That's a nice brace of blenders you have there. Do you know the year of the chrome model and could you post a closer pic of the lid so I'll know what I'm looking for? Thanks for dragging them o!ut FEster

Do any of you know bicycles?

That's true too. I could try to go with some rims and rubber from a mountain bike or something. I learned that the skinny rims and my 250 lbs were incompatible the first hole I hit. Instant blown tire and collapsed rim. The sprockets are very thin as well. On the second bike, I stood up on a...

Do any of you know bicycles?

Looking for a Pee Wee Herman bike! I'm watching the 2nd hand shops and garage sales. I'm hoping to find an old fat tire cruiser to fool around with. I have a couple of made in USA Cannondales, but can't stand the wimpy, skinny, ultra lightweight tires and rims. They won't tolerate curbs or...

    Handsome KDI-20 Back In Service

Hyperbole Slow and steady wins the race. Old school and bomb proof trumps new fangled fancy featured every day! But then that's just me and I've been accused of being difficult on more than one occasion. FEster

Time to enter the frost-free age

Awsome !!! That is one snazzy fridge! Stuff like that is sooooo rare in South Louisiana. There are no basements, so unless it's stored in a huge barn or tightly closed, dry shed, the heat and humidity just rust things into the ground. I guess I'll be going on a road trip up north for...

    The best of the best

Manuals Once I'm solvent again, I'll definitely be downloading the service manuals. I had thought the model specific pats list would be good to determine model to model parts interchange. I figure it would be handy when scrounging parts. from the white goods heap. Seems like most brands...

    The best of the best

whirlpool direct drive My experience is limited to the older belt driven Kenmore/Whirlpool stuff. They cleaned as well as anything I've ever used and were anvil reliable as as well. I sure wouldn't hesitate to own one again. When did Whirlpool switch to direct drive ? FEster

    The best of the best

Some more good info! Lots of good info in that last post! I agree with you about Kenmore and Maytag being bomb proof. My folks had The same pair of gold Kenmores from around 1970 and I've owned battered, garage sale Kenmores and Maytags since I left home. Sadly I never really paid attention to...

    Coverting a Maytag model de308 220V dryer to 110V

sorry if I sounded like a fool to some. I don't know the electrical theory and slide rule stuff. I don't claim to. Everything I know comes from running 480v 3 phase shore power in the ship yard. Hook it up and check rotation on a pump. If it turns backwards, swap 2 legs. Shipboard...

    The best of the best

Getting some good info! I really dig the glass backed Maytags, but some of the other brands have that atomic age style that is soooo cool. I just wouldn't want to score a beautiful train wreck of a machine that would be totally unreliable for daily use. Most of my experience has been with...

    Coverting a Maytag model de308 220V dryer to 110V

one legging I had a heating unit drop a leg one winter and the bill more than doubled with no other changes. With the problem fixed, the bill returned to normal. What gives? Is this a number thing like the way torque and horsepower curves always cross at 5252 RPM regardless of the engine or...

    Coverting a Maytag model de308 220V dryer to 110V

What type of stove do you have? If you have an electric stove or HVAC you have 230V available. Getting juice to the Dryer should be no trick. Hang a plug and fab up a super duty cord at home depot. Drag it out when you dry and stash it when not in use. Your already looking at amperage issues. A...

    Dormeyer collectors

Does anyone here collect Dormeyer? I have an old square pitcher dormy blender that needs a lid. If I can't find one I'll eventually mill one from stainless or food grade plastic with a food grade O-ring seal and a adapt a Oster or other brand replacement glass feed port. Any ideas? FEster
