today's thrift store find for all you kelvinator fans

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

WOW!  That is beautiful and probably quite rare!  I have a plain looking blue one that was made for Westinghouse, but it has a much more streamlined design.

Absolutely Beautiful, But....

....I do not envy whoever had to keep it clean.

If a milk container is not absolutely free of milk residue before it is refilled, the residue will sour the fresh milk very, very quickly. That design looks like a particular knuckle-buster to scrub inside.

Very nice find.  Is this for cream or milk?  I can not tell what is in the background for scale?  thanks alr

It holds about a quart

@alr2903

Never thought about putting something else in a picture to give a sense of scale - I'll have to remember to do that in the future.

To answer your question though, it holds about a quart liquid.

And whoever talked about cleaning it is right - the opening is relatively small and you have corners that you can't really get to on the inside. There's not even a good way to load in a vintage dishwaswher that will effectively get the entire inner surface clean.

There are two small chips on it - one on the underside of the lid and one on the rim (but the lid covers it when installed). The lid and the container both have a hairline crack, but it will still hold liquid.

Not sure if I will ever use it or not, but when you love antique appliances and art deco, you can't let something like that slip away...

I believe the size and shape of the "refrigerator dishes" used as promotional giveaways like this were sized to fit on the shelves, or some in the door shelves of the refrigerators they were selling. Looks like this cute pitcher would slip right onto the shelves of a vintage refrigerator. Even with a few dings and flea-bites, it's a wonder that these gems have survived all these years. To find a piece in the thrift store is a victory in itself - antique dealers usually price these things pretty high.

I have a (small) collection of Hall China pieces that were made for Hotpoint, Westinghouse and Montgomery Ward promotions. While they don't stack or nest together, a couple of the water or milk pitchers were obviously sized to fit into door shelves or make the most efficient use of space. I'll have to take a couple pictures of the Hall (and Harker) I have, it really is pretty stuff.
