New SQ vs relatively new SQ?

I have one of the older models, I bought mine back in 2011. I guess it all depends where you plan on using the washer. The newer washers have a higher spin speed, larger capacity, touch controls instead of knobs, but most importantly, they revised the suspension system so it has a balance...

Goodman AC off, Goodman furnace ON

I envy you guys. We have a Carrier Infiniti System which we had put in last April. (We bought it before they decided to move all of the manufacturing down to Mexico.) It's been hovering around the low 30's (F) here and the furnace has been keeping up with it quite nicely. We shut off the A/C...

    A 1947 Thor Washer - Never Used!

Here's a stupid question... my curiosity is killing me... What happens if the "dishes" setting is used with the washtub by accident? And vice versa.. What happens if the "clothes" setting is used with the dishwasher by accident? I'm guessing with the dishwasher, it wouldn't really do much...

    Unique home renovation style

This home exists in Avon, CT. I'm not even sure if this is even the right forum to place this post, so I apologize if it might be off topic. I just want to know, have many of you have seen this style of interior design in other homes you've visited? If so, what vintage was it from? I have...

Samsung's explosion woes continue as some washing machines blow up in the US

Actually Tolivac, In the local Best Buy, I see that they now have these warning stickers on LG and Samsung top loaders now. I can't help but feel that this is just another repeat of the Ford warning sticker. (See URL below.) LG has at least done something to re-engineer the tub supports to make...

    Reviewed.com slams SQ dryer...

Actually, I have a friend who has an LG dryer and the "Hot" setting burned the material inside of one of my comforters. (You could smell it!) Never had a dryer do that before... So, while it seems like I'm not happy with my Huebsch, I am.. It does the job. I've never had a problem with my...

    Reviewed.com slams SQ dryer...

I own a TOL gas Huebsch dryer that looks identical to this one, except that it has an electromechanical timer instead of the electronic controls. I've always been used to Whirlpool dryers with the lint screen at the top of the dryer that you pull out. Having to manually clean out the lint trap...

Samsung's explosion woes continue as some washing machines blow up in the US

As reported by the CBC... I saw a comment on Slashdot, "Samsung advises that washing Note 7 phones with their washing machines is not recommended." I think this is the same issue we've been hearing about with Spinsploding LG's. They lack any kind of G sensors on the outer tub. They ramp up at...

Modern washing machine energy usage claims: propoganda, or real?

Regarding henene4's comment.... Just for the record, I'm not anti-HE. In fact, it makes sense to me and detergents these days are designed for it. (I'm sure the scientists that do the R&D at the detergent manufacturers know what they're doing.) What I'm against is TL HE. The concept, I...

Modern washing machine energy usage claims: propoganda, or real?

I might as well chip in I guess... The top loader vs front loader debate has been a long ongoing argument in this forum, with arguments going back and forth between which one is better. The one thing I will mention is that a standard, traditional (Non-HE style) top loader is one of the...

    Interesting US washing machine

In retrospect, I wonder if they'd get more capacity if they took the European approach and mounted the drum vertically instead of horizontally? Then just widened the machine to make it fit to American standards. That way, the inner drum would be more cylindrical and would have more capacity.

    Normende Washing Machine

OK, Stupid question.. I took a look at the website.. Sorry if this is off topic, but in one of the pictures, it shows two running shoes inside of one of the machines. Does anyone actually put shoes in the washer? I bet it would make a racket! I always just wash my shoes in the sink if I need to.

They Used To Last 50 Years

The race to the bottom has to stop somewhere. When someone else can build a superior product that lasts longer, cleans better but costs more, eventually people will come to their senses and spend the money that they NEED to spend. We've all grown complacent with cheaply built stuff and buy it...

    Interesting US washing machine

I once seriously considered purchasing a Staber machine. However, they have a very serious design flaw. To save costs, they just bend the inner tub into an octagonal shape instead of using baffles. The theory is that the squareish sides of the tub will act as an agitator and in theory it...

Washing in the ol Rollermatic this morning

I've always loved how the timer indicator was always "Under glass" in the 1960's models.. I think it certainly makes the machines much more classy. I wish more machines used that design philosophy. I admit I'm a sucker for that design language.

    Nit picking a washing machine.

Bruce, I have a friend who has cats. If we want to get pet hair out of our clothes, we have to run a load with just a few items in the tub to make sure they tumble lots and get plenty of water, otherwise we just have to run the same load again until all of the hair is out. When I was growing...

    Nit picking a washing machine.

Foraloysius, I drooled over the Asko's when they came out and thought about buying one, but they're very expensive machines here in Canada. There are much better and cheaper alternatives to Asko here. (For example, Huebsch.) I'm sure that is blasphemy to someone who is European, but all of the...

    Nit picking a washing machine.

I wanted to ignore this thread, but only because I didn't really think that I'd have anything to contribute. (I can't sleep, so I might as well post.) Back when I was living in a condo, I was looking for just the kind of washer you were talking about. A compact washer which could fit in a...

An Amazing Find Right Out of the 1965 Wards Catalog!!

Amazing to see such an old set in such great shape. What captured my eye was that water level selector. Interesting design decision they made, by putting the pointer behind the glass like that. Also, noticed the "Safety Spin" sticker. Makes me wonder if they ever made machines that didn't...

    Firmware update Speed Queen Washers

"Firmware Update" are two words I think should never apply to a washing machine. This thread made me do a double take! I honestly believe that at least connecting a surge protector to your machine won't hurt it and may actually help to protect it. The way how they work is that they have a MOV...
