    WANTING A WESTINGHOUSE RANGE!

Hans: I know that you're no fan of GE's Sensi-Temp or Frigidaire's Heat Minder, and I get that - both depend on parts that are getting HTF. But what on Earth do you have against self-cleaning? Besides the obvious advantage of having the oven clean itself, vintage SC ovens had more insulation...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Kevin: This deep saute was made of parts from various Farberware pieces; Farberware used a "modular" approach to its cookware, making many different items from relatively few pieces. The body of this pan is from the five-quart electric buffet server, which had two "tab" handles on it. The...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Oh, And Brent: The "virgin meal" will probably be a pork roast, braised with stock, celery, onions and carrots (carrots during the last 15-20 minutes only to avoid too much sweetness). After the roast is done, the stock will get strained and turned into gravy, to be served with the sliced...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Stainless: To my knowledge (Tom turbomatic may know something I don't), Farberware never specified the grade of stainless it used in its advertising, but I'm assuming 18/10, with its higher nickel content, because of Farberware's resistance to corrosion, and its fine, lasting polish. I have...

    portable automatic washers question.....

Christina: I think the reason Maytag did not produce a fully-automatic portable was that they probably couldn't make one that met their quality standards at a price that portable customers were willing to pay. Maytags were always very expensive machines. The TOL A906 washer listed for...

Thining the herd - part 1

Ben: It's really just a pipe dream anyway - if I had a Versatronic, that would free up some counter space needed for a microwave, but I would lose a storage drawer, which as you know is critical in that telephone booth of a kitchen I have. Still, I think the MW capability would be sufficient...

    Soap.com is part of Amazon!?!

The IMDb: Has been an Amazon company for a long time - since 1998.

Thining the herd - part 1

Lacks Storage Drawer, Yes! There are microwave components behind the lower panel, so no drawer. How I wish that range was White! It would solve one of my dilemmas with my tiny, tiny kitchen - that of finding counter space for a microwave. I have less than seven feet of counter, including the...

Do Clothes Fade Regardless Of What Detergent You Use?

Cold Water! If you're using warm or hot, there's at least part of your trouble. Any gentle liquid detergent that does not contain a bleaching agent and cold water will keep darks and brights looking much better, much longer. The slow speed of a two-speed washing machine, plus low dryer heat...

Washing White Bedding with Ariel - Still stained! :(

No! A hot wash like that will cook the proteins in the stains and weld them to the fabric, never to be removed. Warm soak, enzyme pre-soak product, be patient. It works.

Easy To Confuse the Age: Spray 'n Wash damage on their painted tops made a lot of Whirlpools look a hundred years old!

    portable automatic washers question.....

Christina: Maytag had only the twin-tub design, but there was an advantage to their portable stuff - it was not as large as other brands. Specifically, the dimension from front to back - the depth - was shallow. So, Maytag portables could go in places other brands couldn't.

Washing White Bedding with Ariel - Still stained! :(

Richard: You need to use a LOT of Ariel and soak a LONG time. On those placemats I mentioned, I soaked them in a bucket containing a cup of Biz and two gallons of water - a very strong solution. Every second or third day, the solution was changed. And I soaked for a week. It must be said I...

Thining the herd - part 1

Travis: I've seen that fridge "in person," and while Avocado isn't my thing, either, it still has an interesting story to tell if you know what you're looking at. Back when shaded colors were popular, paint stores sold spray paint to use for the purpose of updating older appliances to the new...

Washing White Bedding with Ariel - Still stained! :(

Richard: Does Ariel still contain enzymes? It used to, but formulations change and "oxy" is the currently fashionable concept. You need an enzyme pre-soak, and perhaps a pre-treatment. Here in the U.S., we have Biz, an enzyme product that can be used as a pre-soak and a detergent booster...

Over The Air TV and Antennas

I Have.... ....A basic, current-model "rabbit ear" antenna from Mall Wart. Since I'm in an urban area, it does just fine - far better than local cable and satellite providers, in fact. The compression used by those providers is painfully apparent on "niche" channels like MeTV; on a...

Anyone know about wiring UK wall switches in the US?

Something To Think About: If you use a U.K.-spec switch with American wiring, and - God forbid - you should have an electrical fire, your insurance company will do everything in its considerable power to blame the fire on the switch, thus dodging your insurance claim. I understand completely...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

John: With a lot of classically-trained housewives - meaning that their knowledge was passed down to them from their mothers and grandmothers - there's a huge reluctance to change recipes, methods, procedures, etc. The reason is: They often don't know why things work, only that they do. If...
