    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

John: I don't really trust the 350 degree recommendation for Bakelite, either. I spent much of the '80s in the housewares biz, and I can't tell you how many damaged Bakelite handles I saw. Many were due to abuse, of course. But there were quite a few that weren't so easily explained. I...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Rick: My pork roast is done as a top-of-the-stove braise, no oven roasting involved. The pan will never leave the burner when full. And there will be pork for the masses and multitudes - I will have to give half of it to neighbors and I'll still have a freezer full.

GE Turquoise wall oven - P7 - Free!

Well, Duh! I never thought to scroll through the photos. At any rate, according to the date finder, it's a '65; that's the only year that uses the "AY" prefix for the serial. The date finder does not show a way to determine the month for an "AY"-prefix serial number. 1965 it is.

GE Turquoise wall oven - P7 - Free!

Cory: If the serial number is accessible on this beauty, would it be possible to get it for purposes of identifying the year of manufacture? This one is earlier than most I've seen; I'm guessing 1965 or maybe even '64. But knowing for sure would be a nice addition to the knowledge base...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Eugene: Farberware claimed that the Bakelite handles on its cookware were oven-safe up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I personally don't do that, but Farberware always said it was okay.

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Not A Perfectionist! The members here who have met me can attest to that, LOL! I wish the photos gave a better impression of the size of this thing - it is ginormous.

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Tim: I would not say "new," I would say "presentable." It's very clean now, and that's the main thing with me. You can see where the dent was, and some minor scarring from harsh cleaning pads. Still better than not having this HTF piece! Your next visit here, perhaps we can do a pork...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to own one of these, because they're HTF, plus they fetch a fairly good price on eBay, and then there's shipping.... It is a Farberware twelve-inch, five-quart saute pan - a very large size that was not common in the '80s when this item was made...

Very Old GE Frig What year ya think?

I Think.... ....This is the same fridge Bette Davis had in 1939's Dark Victory. Here's a shot of Bette's box -

1960s VINTAGE AVOCADO GE AMERICANA in GREAT SHAPE

Somewhere.... Between 1968 and 1970 - I have the '67 and '71 GE catalogs and this model is not in either one. It's later than '67, because Americana oven doors were different then. And it's earlier than '71, because the cooktop is a different stamping than was used then. Whatever year it's...

Early 1970s GE J320 FREE in Milwaukee

Tom: This is a lower-MOL range, so having a cooktop light at all is sort of a bonus. Never look a gift fluorescent in the starter! :)

Early 1970s GE J320 FREE in Milwaukee

That's A.... 1972 model. It's the conventional-clean version of the J 360, which had a P*7 self-cleaning oven. The cooktop light aside, it wasn't exactly bristling with features; it didn't have Sensi-Temp and both versions had only one large burner. It's lower-MOL. Still, a nice range...

    Instant Coffee?

Alistair: And you have provided a flood of very wonderful memories - by mentioning Hornsea. In my Atlanta house, which was nearly all midcentury, I had Hornsea Heirloom canisters, designed by John Clappison, in the green, blue and brown colors. Again, these were something popular here; I...

    Central Vac Systems?

That DOES Beat All. The worst renter story I have doesn't begin to compare with that. It was a house where it was discovered that the tenants who had vacated left a huge roach infestation. Investigation showed that the cucarachas' food supply was about a third of an inch of bacon grease in...

Vintage Yellow Sears Kitchen Appliances - $450 (Roane County)

The Seller Is Mistaken: The showpiece of the collection is not that range - it is the Lady Kenmore dishwasher, the same TOL DW I bought my mom in '73. For all the bad rap D & M DWs get, it worked very well for a lot of years, and had more features and cycles than anything else I ever saw...

    Instant Coffee?

Alistair: You're quite right, it is amazing what makes it to the U.S. That Russell Hobbs kettle had a tremendous vogue here - an '80s yuppie status symbol. You'd be surprised how popular Midwinter and Langley (later Denby) pottery was here in the '60s and '70s, as well as Viners cutlery. In...

Avocado Kitchen/Laundry - GE and Kenmore

Jeff: Mysteries like this trim piece are the reason I'd just about give my left nevermind for a full set of GE product catalogs from at least 1957 through, say, 1980. I have only 1957 *, 1967 *, 1971 * and 1972. I have some info on other years pieced together from magazine ads, etc., but...

Avocado Kitchen/Laundry - GE and Kenmore

Jeff: The piece of trim behind the oven door handle seems to be something that was added at some point, not taken away. It is not shown in the 1971 or 1972 full-line catalogs, which show the earlier door handle, which was a brushed metal look, not the woodgrain handle that you correctly note...
