    Number PULEAZE! Part Two:

A friend of mine told me this was on Youtube. Thanks for posting it Eddy and thanks for the thread Louie. Yeah, one would think at some point along their silly existence they would have seen an old movie or run across one somewhere. It seems as if it's time for schools to start teaching mid - to...

Best Soap for vintage Kitchen Aid Dishwasher

Something with phosphate in it. But Massachusetts is one of those states that gets all worked up about phosphate I think, so you may not be able to buy it. Usually where there's a will there's a way. Try Amazon and see if they'll ship Bubble Bandit to Massachusetts. There's all so Cascade Fryer...

    Number PULEAZE! Part One:

This thread is especially poignant for me at this time as I just had my landline disconnected. I had that same number for 32 years. I agree with Eddie that working as a telephone operator at that time was surely miserable. I resented paying long distance fees to talk to my cousins that were only...

    Holes in clothes

Zigzag setting on sewing machine. Go back and forth over hole until it’s filled in. If you don’t, I would zip up all zippers, especially metal ones and fasten buttons. Check your agitator for rough spots and if you find any get some fine emory paper and polish out the spots. I wash mixed loads...

Getting my kdss-21a ready for daily use, need some loading tips

That sounds about right. Start small and add a little more if you have to. My mom used too much in hers and took the shine off the porcelain.

I Bit the Buillet -- The Matag A407 is Mine

Define over filling. Above the line where the lint filter meets the agitator barrel would be considered overfilling by most. Others consider above the upper most holes in the barrel's side an overfill. The machines I have or have worked on are set to the seam where the lint filter meets the...

And after a mere 6 years, the 57 GE washer is...ready!

Nice job, Paul. I love me a solid tub. I don’t care about Betty Furness and her sand test in the solid tubs. I loved my sixties Speed Queen A-49 (I think) and matching gas dryer. Great styling, clean clothes and fun to watch IMO. Those incandescent lit glass control panels with the cool graphics...

Ford MoCo Buys Derelict Michigan Central Station in Detroit

I spotted this building while crossing The Ambassador Bridge from Windsor back in 2000. I thought at the time that the building probably wouldn’t make it and here, almost 20 years later, someone is doing something about it. To loose it would be like loosing Penn Station in New York. A loss that...

    Everything old is new again

That was so funny. I’m sure none of us recognized any of those machines except the Westinghouse “Tanglemat”. My mother always shook the sand out of our clothes if we had been to the beach. Betty should have washed a load of sheets and dug all that out of there.

What Kind Of Water Do You People Have Out There?

We here in Missouri and many other parts of the US are cursed with varying degrees of hard water because of porous limestone and sandstone that release calcium, magnesium and chalk. In mountainous parts of the country sometimes the water flows directly over some of these types of rocks and picks...

KitchenAid Trash Masher -- How Old?

A bit late to the table.... But I was told the bin and ram on these machines get dirty and stink to high Heaven. I’ve never owned one so I can’t speak from experience. I know these things have automatic deodorant dispensers, so maybe this was a case of poor maintenance? Any comments from others...

Maytag RR (early ‘80’s with the three buttons in the middle and the knob on the right). KDS-58 and Sears Ultra Clean II, or III. Don’t know about models after that. Built-Ins would be fine too. Just dreams.

Milnor commercial gas dryers and washers - $3500 (Beech Creek)

These old bolt down Milnors were the bomb. Back in the day they didn’t have all that junk on the front of the machine. Just a big clamp latch to keep the door shut, a money slot, a hole on top to add product, and the two switches to select wash and rinse temperature. My memory is a bit vague but...

    Cleaning an electric coffee percolator

If all this other stuff is working so well you might not want to spend the money, but Urnex makes this stuff called “Clearly Coffee”. It’s a blue liquid. I haven’t tried it yet. It’s ingredient is disodium metasilicate an it’s made in USA.

    My New Society Easy-Flo Percolator

Thanks Paul. It had never been used. The only thing that was missing was the box. Now I have to find some Dip-It or a substitute. I think Ecolab makes it now. That percolator is from the '50's, I believe. GE bought them out late in the decade, if memory serves. That blender was my grandmothers...
