'My name is Maytagbear, and I am an idiot'

So glad I'm not the only one who does stupid things.  About a month ago I had an apple core in one hand and a dirty glass in the other.  When I unloaded the dishwasher and found the apple core on the top rack and wondered what the...   Later I went to throw something in the trash and found the...

    Today's POD, 10/17/2012

Does anyone remember when JCPenney stopped offering and selling electronics and major appliances?  I remember just before JCP moved to Haywood Mall in 1978 looking at appliances, electronics, and furniture on the basement floor of their Main Street store.  I can't honestly remember if they still...

    Deep fat fryer collection?

Nice scores!  I have a Toastmaster deep fryer I use for french fries and chicken legs.  Enjoy!  The countertops in the home I grew up in were the gray ice just like the top of your table and your chairs.  Thanks for the flashback!

    Friendship cake. I love cake

Back in the late 80's severeal of my co-workers were all into the Friendship Cake.  One of my co-workers gave me a starter and I fooled with it until I finally baked it.  It was okay, but I did not think it was worth the trouble.

    Hot Dog Toaster

And my watermelon slicer (which is really an over-sized APPL My wife and I couldn't wait to get our Khun-Rikon watermellon slicer at Bed Bath and Beyond.  We were sooooooooo excited.  We were not impressed.  Apparently others were not impressed.  A local grocery chain, Bi-Lo, had the...

VTG Hot dog cooker "electrocuting" ones

You're welcome! Mine was a Christmas present.  I was so looking forward to using it.  No matter what I did to remedy the problem, the bitter taste was on the ends.  Otherwise it was a great little cooker.  Like you said, if you don't mind throwing the ends away you should be okay.  For years...

VTG Hot dog cooker "electrocuting" ones

I had a Presto hot dog cooker many, many years ago.  It did a great job but you couldn't eat the ends of the weniers you stuck into the electrodes.  They turned dark gray and had a very metalic taste.  I eventually threw it away.

Out with the NEW in with the OLD! FRIGIDAIRE!

That sure is a beauty!  My Mama had a 1974 TOL Frigidaire stove in avacado similar to yours.  It was still working fine in 1995 when I got rid of it when I redid her kitchen and replaced it with a Whirlpool.  Like your Hotpoint, that Whirlpool didn't weight 1/2 as much as that Frigidaire.   ...

When did the color avocado debut in applinces?

Thank you Sandy You make a very storng argument.  I noticed Tippi's green suit she wore thru the movie and  Mrs. Brenner's green truck.  I never made the connection as you did but it makes perfect sense.  I've seen The Birds probably 6 or more times in my life but I never made the connection of...

When did the color avocado debut in applinces?

In the movie "The Birds" in the two kitchen scenes of Lydia Brenner's kitchen I noticed both her stove and dishwasher were avocado.  I never saw her refrigerator.   The stove was a Roper Epicure gas range and the dishwasher (not sure of the manufacturer) had a huge dial which was 1/2 white and...

    Filmy car windows!

I had a 1984 Chevrolet Chevette with the same film problem.  I had to wash my windows every couple of days as the film would get so bad your  field of vision would be blurred.  When I complained I was told that it was film coming from the vinyl components.  Believe it or not that little Chevette...

    Vintage Steams Irons

My dad bought his tires at Sears until around 1970 when he started buying them at the Western Auto store in Liberty, SC.  He and Mr. Taylor, the associate store owner, were friends and he enjoyed doing business with him.  When I started driving and needed anything I would go in to the WA store...

    Otasco Stores

My friend Andy and I have been chatting and he was asking the name of another store similar to Western Auto.  It took me a minute to think but I remembered the name Otasco.  We would see advertisiments on the television for Otasco but there were no Otasco stores near us.  In fact, I have never...
