    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

Spot on, Launderess! I noticed this problem quite clearly while washing my bathroom rugs with the Tide pods. After about 6 or 7 minutes of agitation in hot water, there was nothing but suds in the machine. I had to rinse the rugs AT LEAST six or seven times before there were no more residual...

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

I don't care for the Tide pods because it takes several rinses to get all the soap out; a problem I don't have with the powder..

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

I recall an old "Sixty minutes" segment with Andy Rooney about liquid vs. powder detergent. He was ranting about liquids being mostly water and how manufacturers are really just selling you their product in diluted form, which has some truth to it, IMO. I do notice that since I have been using...

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

@ arbilab I just found this online: The pods themselves are made of polyvinyl alcohol (CH2CH(OH)), which is said to be a water-soluble polymer. Tide had to reduce the water content of liquid Tide from 50% to 10% in order for the pod not to dissolve upon contact with the detergent. I could not...

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

I understand the line of reasoning entirely, however, one could go so far as to ask: Why pay $2300.00 for a Miele washing machine or $90,000.00 for a Mercedes-Benz? After all, they sell washers and cars that are made here in the US and they don't even cost half that. It's a question of what...

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

Man gönnt sich ja sonst nichts... Since Persil is a German product, it has to be shipped across the Atlantic, since, to my knowledge, Henkel does not have a manufacturing licensee on this side of the Pond. As with most everything else imported, it's more expensive abroad. Practical? Probably...

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

I order it online from the persilstore.com. Not exactly cheap, mind you, but you don't need as much and stuff like Oxyclean is then redundant.

    Those Laundry Detergent "Pods" ...

My $0.02... I had been using Tide liquid since I bought my frontloader last Autumn. About six months ago, I started using the pods for convenience reasons (I tend to overdose detergent). Upon reading another thread here about spider failure and the pics of how completely gunked up the spiders...

    Wasmachine webshop NL

Kind of like here then, but still, being able to make one's hobby to one's profession sounds inviting...:-)

    Wasmachine webshop NL

Washing machine shop in the Netherlands. Nothing else. Only laundry equipment and dishwashers. I wasn't able to understand everything he was saying but it was enough to know this sounds like a dream come true...I've never heard of anything like this in the US.

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

I used Ariel Futur a couple of times but I recall I didn't like the scent of it as much. I think my favorite, after Persil Megaperls, was Frosch powder (I probably just like the pretty tin in came in). It seems there are a lot of very "chav scented" (love that term!) detergents here in the US...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

mrboilwash: Danke der Aufklärung! I had forgotten how hard the water is in Germany. Chris: Thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely try that next time. 270g Persil is a TON for a frontloader. Talk about overkill! It also says that it contains water softener, an added bonus. I recall a news...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

You're lucky, mine doesn't even have a heater or a drum light. Strictly BOL. You can see them at the bottom of the "Pedestals or no pedestals" thread. I wish I had spent a couple of hundred more and got some nicer features...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

So you and I even have the same machine. How cool! No, it was not cheap. I got eight boxes of 475g each for $29.00 plus shipping, but now I will most likely be able to skip the Oxyclean (and possibly FS. Don't want to ruin that beautiful scent!).

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

Water.. Hey Todd, that helps a little. Actually, Sanford has "gravel filled wells" around York county and the water company said we have 7 grains (whatever that is) and upwards. I noticed the faucets scale up fairly quickly as well. So by volume, you mean I just get out my measuring cup and...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

Okay, so the case of Persil got here today. I just want to be sure I'm dosing it correctly. The chart says for heavy soil and in hard water (which Maine definitely has) I should be using 275 ml of detergent. What? I learned baking in Germany, where Persil is made, and we had to use the metric...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

Alan: I have thought I would not need the Oxyclean (also not cheap) with Persil. When I lived in Germany, I never used LCB either, as it is fairly unknown over there. I remember everything used to come out fresh-smelling and very clean and white. About the only additive I would add other than...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

Just to underline that, I recalled reading something in the owner's manual of my washer. It only said not to mix chlorine bleach with any other household cleaning agents, such as ammonia, as poisonous gases could be generated. I knew this already, of course, but the Oxyclean-bleach combo threw...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

If it were only the comparatively worse wash results, I could live with liquids, but when I hear stuff like they coat the insides of the washer, that is enough to make me want to switch. I have no problems with powder detergents at all, but with the pitiful amount of water most modern North...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

I see.... I had no idea I was making such a stupid mistake with mixing the two bleaching agents, although I have to say that the bleach is always added in the first rinse, whereas the Oxyclean is added to the wash water. I'm sure there is always a residual amount of Oxyclean in the clothes...
