What is your average drying time?

55-60 minutes on high for a large load of bath towels. 40-45 minutes on medium for a large load of clothes. 25 minutes on medium for sheets. If I ever get around to changing the belt on my SQ I'm sure that dry time will drop down by a few minutes. Airflow is great, you can hear a roar from the...

    Happy 20th Anniversary...

Happy anniversary. It's been almost 9 years since I signed up already, and I think I've been lurking for 12 years now. One of the best sites around to use. More modern websites have alot of functionality issues that yours doesn't.

Should I use modern Tide in my vintage washers?

Any of that stuff will work fine with your 1958 lifestyle. Don't be afraid to experiment with washing in cold water with it. I bought a bottle of Tide CW to play around with using my 2015 SQ TL (pretty much living your 1958 life only manufactured in a different millennium) and it did...

Coil Stoves Easier to Clean than Glass Top

We had a glass top for awhile and went back to gas. Other than lifting the grates off to clean, the gas cooktop is really no harder to clean. I was never too keen on cooking on the glass top as the heat was near impossible to control.

Bah! it's dehumidifier time -- and time for a new one for me...

No luck with anything made in the last 15 years. Have a few vintage ones but none powerful enough to do the job I need them to do. I'm curious if there's a more commercial alternative that isn't prohibitively expensive.

    Worst washing machines

Maytag badged Samsung I'm sure falls toward the bottom for most things and especially longevity. Knowing what I know today I'd be happy living with a SQ AWNE for the rest of my life.

    Questions about bath towels....

My towels have been cleaner than ever ever since getting the SQ. Lots of hot water and a generous tub of water to rinse in seems to be the key for me. I have about 8 white towels and 10 colored towels so they get split into 3 loads typically. The white towels I use whatever detergent I'm in the...

How long do cordless phone sets last?

I have a few Panasonic DECT cordless phone sets with the eco and extended range feature and they will work all the way down the street at the corner 700' away from the house. The call clarity is almost as good as a corded phone too. I bought those probably about 10 years ago now and will just...

UPDATED SPEED QUEEN DRYER DR5003WE for 2021

The only thing I would do differently is make the drum SS instead of galvanized steel. The heat control is just fine, I also made sure to get the DR7 with the "medium" setting. The dryer doesn't run any hotter than any other dryer we've had. We also have good venting. Bad venting will cause any...

    Incoming Water Tap Temps....

Our water is cold enough to make my hands go numb in seconds, but I haven't checked the temp yet. Last time I did after a long cold snap of below 20º, It was around 42º. I have the water heater set to 140º and that's just hot enough for "warm" on the washer to be on the lukewarm side. It's a 75...

Brand new SQ TC5 with noise issue

I've heard many different noises from my SQ but not that one. I did have a resonance/vibration issue during spin drain early on and it turned out to be a plastic shroud around the capacitor resonating against the motor bracket.

Whirlpool DD failure what do you think could be wrong?

It's all fixed. The Flood Safe hoses were the culprit.

Whirlpool DD failure what do you think could be wrong?

There it is going into final spin. Sounds perfectly healthy to me.

Whirlpool DD failure what do you think could be wrong?

It turns out it has those flood safe hoses on it. That could be the culprit too. They’re gonna remove them and check the screen and check flow.

Whirlpool DD failure what do you think could be wrong?

Ok with what she initially told me, I was under the impression it wasn’t even going into final spin, like the timer just went dead, but I asked her and she said the final spin is working and I’m gonna have her send a video of it just to verify that. So it is probably as simple as the cold water...

Whirlpool DD failure what do you think could be wrong?

What do you think could be going on here? Apparently it still fills, agitates, drains and spins but when it goes to rinse it just goes dead and makes the noise you’ll see in the video. Plus the cold water stopped filling, not sure if that’s a coincidence (I still hear a solenoid hum) or if the...

Should I swap out my Speed Queen set for this KitchenAid set?

If it was me I would jump on that KA set in a heartbeat but I don't think there's anything that could come along that would make me give up my SQ. Also, I've yet to have to put a new belt on it. I thought I would do it this year at the 5 year mark but I'm seeing no signs of excessive slip or...

Are the Maytag MFR series considered TRUE/GENUINE Maytags

I used to see Neptunes in laundromats quite a bit. Never used one though. I always preferred using the hardmount machines. My local laundromat has a 40 pound Speed Queen that could probably clean anything, it does 2 washes and 3 rinses and does a very good job. Her two 60 pound Dexters are set...

Antique Gas stove.. Here we go again? Need all the info I can get!

I had an irrational fear of gas as a child and reading this thread being reminded that gas appliances didn't used to even have a pilot light let alone any other safeties has made me realize maybe that irrational fear wasn't so irrational if I were living 50-60 years earlier. When my grandmother...
