    Need help with a SQ

I have a friend whose parents have a Speed Queen AA5421L washer dated to 1991. He said that they have been having problems with it walking across the floor and it acting out of balance. The machine is level and the load is balanced. They have looked inside and said all of the springs looked...

    best for removing body oil

The key here is to use HOT water more so than which type of detergent. I usually use Tide liquid and Clorox 2 with hot water and a long wash setting. Works great. I remember reading awhile ago that we should be washing ALL laundry in water that is warmer than body temperature, so that the body...

The sad state of fans today...

Oh you don't have to tell me! I was thinking about this the other day. We have a couple of the newer Lasko box fans at work that are a joke. One was running on high and it was just sitting there shaking like crazy it was so out of balance. Plus the width of it is like half of what a vintage box...

Montgomery Ward UFO-5639 A/C unit help.

Holy Toledo 2760 watts! Just for a comparison I went online to the new cheap units and a 15,000 BTU uses 1230 watts. Crazytown! But also look at how many of the new ones you would have gone thru in the lifetime of this. Just don't make em like they used to.

2018 DOE Regs Front load washers/ Speed Queen Front Loaders

You better hurry and look for one because they stopped production of the residential front loaders in the spring. I just checked and they have already been pulled from the website.

    De-linting a 1976 Sears Dryer

While you have it apart, it would be a good idea to go ahead and check your thermostats. Sometimes they can get lint built up on them and not give a correct reading, which results in the dryer getting too hot.

1995 Kenmore DD TL - motor clicks (and arcs) on and off loudly during agitate

My guess would be the motor. I'd definitely try and repair it as these were some awesome washers and hard to find. My aunt and uncle had 2 of these sets in black, a 1989 set and a 1999 set.

So they want my opinion, do they?

Yep I purchased one in December of 2017 and got that same email the other day asking me to review their product. I'm not going to even bother, like you whats the point in reviewing an old model that isn't available anymore.

    Whats up with Speed Queen!

This is NOT a different design from before. This machine is the same as the 2017 models. The tub is ONLY indexing because the machine is new and the brakes haven't settled in yet. It's just too bad there is no water level switch.

    1986 Kemore Limited electric Dryers

Not sure if these particular machines have it or not but underneath the push buttons is a "membrane". Its what actually responds to the push of the button and sends it back to the control. It's possible that has simply worn out. I know Speed Queen uses these on their commercial line.

    Sharp Microwaves

Does anybody here know if Sharp is now outsourcing their microwave production to other companies? Only reason I ask is because these are what I've grown up with. Our last one lasted close to 20 years. We replaced it with another Sharp that is a few years old now. It has some characteristics to...

    Burned Frigidaire

Not sure if this link will work, but look at the burn marks on the back of what I believe to be a Kenmore/Frigidaire/GE dryer. Not sure if it had a fire or if it's just from the element, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to buy it...

    Whirlpool Reliability

I was thinking about BD and DD Whirlpool washers, and while BD machines were around for years and I do like them, but I wonder if the DD was a more reliable machine. My aunt had a 1980 BD and it failed and was replaced in 1994, only 14 years of use. My grandma also had one and got 20 years out...

Speed queen 2016 top load washer

Since there is an extra pipe by it, it looks like some sort of recirculation pump that cycles the water around so you never have to wait for hot water at the taps.

New Whirlpool Commerical TL washer wash action

I really like this machine! I'm not terribly fond of the agitator, would prefer the dual action. However I like the porcelain tub as opposed to the stainless. It's a nice machine!

    Rough GE Set

Maybe because everyone is getting their tax checks back, so they go appliance shopping!

    BD Sounds

It also seems that the 24" models were quieter than the 29" for whatever reason. When did they change from Ge to emerson motors? Does anybody know what brand are used in DD machines?

    BD Sounds

I got to thinking, why do old whirlpool/Kenmore belt drives sound so much different from one another? Some machines have a louder woo woo sound than others, others have that grainy whine to them. Some also have a higher pitch sound while others are deeper. Is it all in the motor or other parts...
