    Happy Maytag Month!

At the Laundromat using some classic Maytag orbitals.

    How does this keep happening!?

The counter balancing makes sense, but my Ultra Wash portable and Maytag Reverse rack portable do not have any counter balance installed. Of course both of those machines use a lot more steel and lot less plastic. I will say the plastic tub seems to be quieter.

    How does this keep happening!?

Dead weight… I was initially surprised that it just as heavy as the porcelain tank Ultra Wash, until I flipped it over. Whirlpool was kind enough to install a cinder block in the bottom to keep it from floating way. However the bottom panel seems to made entirely of plastic… I know the Ultra...

    How does this keep happening!?

So the apartment complex that I live in has a big roll off dumpster in the corner of the lot. The maintenance people use it as they renovate the apartments. It’s fairly common to see appliances in there, they are usually the builders grade units that have been a lot of use so nothing too...

Having some problems with my kitchenaid kds-58 (kds-18)

So I guess if I was paying attention I would noticed that you said kds-58, denoting the portable model. The portables did indeed only have a single solonoid, as they aren’t continuously connected to the water supply. In any case take the hoses off on both sides and check for sediment and other...

Having some problems with my kitchenaid kds-58 (kds-18)

Intermittent problems can sometimes be hard to diagnose, so you’ll have to do some good detective work. If the level is bottom during circulation isn’t correct, you may have an issue with your fill valve. This is not entirely uncommon on older machines as they can fill with sediment over the...

    Mystery top load dishwasher

Can anyone ID this machine? The resolution isn’t quite enough to see the brand. The seller makes no mention of the brand in the listing either. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/691122652204299/

    Happy Maytag Month!

So many gorgeous Maytags. I still have my great grandmothers portable reverse rack. It’s not in service currently, but maybe one of these days I’ll have enough room to have all the toys in one place. This is also a direct drive unit. I don’t believe they made a lot of the direct drive reverse...

Help - getting started with "new" 1980s Kenmore dishwasher

It looks like you have a very similar model to the Ultra Wash I have. Mine is a portable at least but from what I can tell they are similar. These are Built by Whirlpool on the power clean platform, quite reliable and easy to work on. If it hasn’t been used in a while, I would recommend...

    Whirlpool Coin Op Stacked Set

We have the individual units in our guest laundry at the hotel. We have had no issues with them, other than someone broke the handle off the detergent drawer. But guests are very hard equipment so can’t blame the machine too much for that.

    Whirlpool Coin Op Stacked Set

Our local appliance store has this unit on their showroom floor. I wonder if they will sell a residential version similar to the LG Wash tower.

    Cleancult dishwasher tabs

Well the two big issues are sudsing and the fact that tablets can take several minutes to fully dissolve. In a vintage machine that only has a 10 or so minute main wash you are loosing precious time. As long as you get the results you need go for it.

    Holiday loads.

The Easter weekend brought some extra cooking with it, and of course extra dishes. It was the Potscrubbers turn this time around. Not exactly a bob load, but certainly many challenging items, a lot of sticky baked on nastyness. Will everything emerge clean, or will the Ultra Wash have to redo...

    1982? Sears/Best Dishwasher

What a beautiful machine! You don’t see too many machines that used the analog time remaining indicators! Glad they are still using it.

    Potscrubber III 1200

I have the model below this one, the GSD-1000. This was before the Power Clean platform came out. Mine is dated from 79. It does heat the main wash and final rinse, though the heater is more about maintaing temperature rather then raising it. I don’t think GE has ever had forced air drying...

KDS-18 not cleaning or draining completely

Hello and welcome! Congratulations on your home purchase, sounds like it had fun vintage appliances in it! Also way to get in on some DIY repair. Can be very rewarding, a great way to learn new skills, and save you some cash! A few things to keep in mind here, Hobart KitchenAids are well...

    Potscrubber Water Supply

Well both my Potscrubber and the Ultra Wash request 140 degree water. Of course the difference is the Ultra Wash will do a thermostatic hold if requested to get the temperature to 140. On the Potscrubber, the only cycle with an extension is Power Scrub cycle, which has a 30 minute main wash...

    Potscrubber Water Supply

When did GE transition the Potscrubbers to use 120 degree water? Also did they ever offer them with a thermostatically held main wash? Also did they put a more powerful heater in them?
