My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

Dave Thankfully I have a machine shop in the local area that’ll install it for me. I don’t care to try doing it myself.

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

That's odd It's clearly described in my manual for the earlier models, like the A700 and A702. It's also listed in the A806 parts manual for series 00. Isn't series 00 the earliest variant?

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

Does no one have an answer to the question in reply 92? In addition to the chamfer question, how is the o-ring kept lubed? Its part number is still called out in the A806 parts manual, so I feel like it should be there. But as I said, it was missing from mine and the top bushing doesn't match...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

Well that explains it. Thanks John. It never occurred to me that it was used on a lower model.

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

New Pinion Gear I found several of them. Fortunately I only need one......for now. The new gear is a little different from the one that came off in that it's cut like a gear from end to end having no smaller diameter smooth portion where the groove pin goes. Probably just a simplification to...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

Dan Very interesting that it’s the older style lint filter screen with the later style plastic top instead of stainless. How is that even possible? As for the groove pin, I found a company that said they had ten in stock. I ordered four. I’ll let you know when they show up. I spoke to the...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

Long overdue update I tried repeatedly to get the groove pin out of the steel pinion gear and failed, so a machine shop finally removed it for me. That was last week. Today I picked up a new agitator shaft and steel pinion gear, and just placed an order for four groove pins from an outfit that...

    Turquoise Maytag washer

The only thing I can see wrong with the timer knob is the little gold center cap is missing. If someone wants to go get this I have a spare gold center cap and a Horton 221 valve I can spare. The Horton 221 valve looks just like the Maytag 201163, though it lacks the warm water temperature...

Antique cars: gas /kerosene mix :)

Kerosene, Diesel and Jet A are very similar fuels. So much so that in a pinch they can be used interchangeably to a degree. I can't imagine anyone suggesting that Diesel should be added to gasoline in any ratio to make the engine run better, so why would Kerosene be different? Now my curiosity...

    1975 Maytag A407 Kingston 2-04889-2 Timer Problem

I would open up that timer and have a look at those switches. Burned contacts or bent switches could cause the issue you're seeing and both are fixable.

Kingston timer housing repair - suggestions?

If you really want to go all out there's always the approach documented below. Kingston timer bodies are fairly easy to come by. https://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?48975

Maytag HA806 Available in Los Angeles - Eagle Rock

The machine I went through for my parents back in 2012 is available in Eagle Rock. I would keep this myself if there were any way to do it, but at the moment it’s at risk of being put out on the curb for a scrapper to grab. This machine has a professionally repainted cabinet and has worked...

    Diesel"parking heaters"(meant for vehices)

Back when I was in the Army, the tank I drove was equipped with a diesel heater. It was shaped like a ten inch diameter cylinder, two feet or so long with a control box mounted to one side, and sat in the forward right side of the hull in front of fifteen rounds of main gun ammunition. It worked...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

A bit more to add. First, thanks for the compliments and the encouragement. It's been slow going lately due to things that are quite stuck and uncooperative. I want to do this right, and after breaking my agitator I figured I'd better slow down some and be a bit more cautious. Your comments and...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

Dan Now that all the old sticky oil has been removed it rotates rather freely with no slop. At least it seems that way to me. Granted, I have no prior experience with these things so nothing to compare it to. I still haven’t removed the agitator shaft from the upper half of the transmission, so...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

A bit more progress to report. Photo 1. With the transmission now finally separated from the tub, I made this little stand to hold it upright so I could work on it. Photo 2. It took some effort, but the transmission halves were separated giving me my first look at the inner workings. The oil...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

I’ve been considering home plating set ups like those sold by Caswell, but don’t have one yet. I’ve done a fair amount of plating at the aircraft service centers I’ve worked at, so I’m familiar with the process, but if this part is the only thing to plate it’s more cost effective to send it out.

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

John I have a new replacement for that shaft, but I won't use it unless the original looks bad. So far it looks decent and might get by with new zinc plating. We'll see how it goes when I get it apart a little further.
