    Armed with Maytag Ammo lol!

WP/KM I enjoyed the read, I also like how they *painfully* conceded to some of WP/KM's advantages, but only that of a medium men's shirt. It is a good way I think to more-so to point out features of the Maytag as opposed to necessarily criticizing the other brands. They did however take the...

    Easy Spin Drier

Easy now... I have a late 1969 Easy in storage (parts) so I know they made it that long, which initially was MUCH longer than I thought they were made.   Also I was always amazed at how many different versions of this machines were made. All of the different trims and colors and agitators and...

ballast ring rusted through, can this tub be saved ?

Creative Engineering You could fill it with something similar to that yes, it's not an exact material, it just needs something that will provide weight on the top of the tub to balance. As for a sealing method, I would take a grinding/wire wheel attachment and attack as much of the rust as...

    Winnie the Pool

Traveling Man Scott, may I ask what you do that requires such travel, you really do seem to pop up all over the place...   I have to say you are certainly a go-getter in you appliance acquiring, really roping in some nice ones.   -Tim

ballast ring rusted through, can this tub be saved ?

Thoughts Is there something special about this GE clone to you? What you *could* do, and I think would be much easier in your case, is find another used machine and perform a swap. The GE machines are easy to do this on, and if you could find a good GE/Hotpoint or whatever and swap out your...

ballast ring rusted through, can this tub be saved ?

Typical GE Time for a replacement tub my friend. That's a bad one. Rust is something that seems to plague these GE/Hotpoints, seems more of an issue on the newer models. Unless the boot has hardened significantly, I see no reason to replace that. You could save the top ring with some hard epoxy...

    Filterflo Saved

Posts You're very welcome, I'm glad they provided some help. I think this is a good combination of units, I really wouldn't pick a GE dryer if I had other choices due to the proximity of the heater to the clothes. I've had large items that couldn't move freely in the drum be singed in the back...

    Filterflo Saved

GE FF I'm glad you saved this machine, it looks to be in good shape. I liked the story and sorry to hear about your loss, the machine will have sentimental value in addition to functionality. Remember, the only thing that really matters when it comes to collecting anything is the relationship...

Hold The Phone! Early Hoover TT

Hoover Yes Greg, this is the 1st of them. The 300 series were the wringers and the 500s were twinnies. This machine looks like a later 500, the earlier ones had a blue spinner lid and blueish trim. Still this looks fab even if it is slightly expensive. If you look at the picture of the guts...

Photos of the Hoover Twin Tub's guts

Hoover 0510 This is not a terrible looking machine, just make sure that grey drain hose isn't brittle. The "round" belt is supposed to be rough, it's elastic. I would put some warm-hot water in the spinner and move the spinner back and forth to gently free up the pump bearing and work it a...

DDD 5/10/12 - Hoover Twin Tub

Spinning Yes, I always spin out the initial suds, and as a manual rinse machine, it's fine. I was mostly disappointed with the auto-mode, it could be so much better. I was thinking of maybe wiring in a delay circuit to delay the contact on the pressure switch, maybe that would give it more time...

DDD 5/10/12 - Hoover Twin Tub

Hoover Auto-Rinse Maybe someone else who has an Auto-Rinse model can comment, but I don't find it very effective, which is a bummer. I remember wanting for a 0519 auto-rinse machine for a long time until coming across a decent one. After having one for a while, I've come to find the feature...

Here's a nice pushbutton Maytag in Colorado

Pushbutton I think the washer was produced from 1959-1970. Starting out as the 160, then becoming the A900 then onto the A906. The dryer (DE/DG750) came later, maybe 61/6 but not as sure on that. As mentioned, when the push-button washer came out there was no push-button match to it, so you had...

    Maytag Highlander

Does it have a light on the control panel when its operating On the 500 series Highlander like this, yes, there is a red neon pilot behind the little diamond. The 300's had the diamond, but no light.   -Tim

DDD 5/10/12 - Hoover Twin Tub

All I could think of... is Nom Nom Nom... Oh what a cool machine.   I dunno Mike, there is something I really like about the photo's you post, I can't put my finger on it. I can so imagine that Norge wringing that and just gushing with water.   -Tim

DDD 5/10/12 - Hoover Twin Tub

Rinsing Greg, yes I agree with you, slow the water current the better. It takes longer to engage the switch, but it allows for more saturation. I usually run mine through 2 on/off cycles. With a decent detergent (Rosalies would be amazing...) things clear out nicely. I also warm-rinse in them...

Hoover Manuals The W1003 is a Hoover branded Handy-Hot machine, it's a sorta rare manual.   I also have some Easy manuals and inserts as well as some ads for POD if you want them, I'm pretty sure they would all fit in a manilla envelope.   Thanks   -Tim

    1970's Three Door Fridge

Fridgidaire I know this fridge well, my great-grandmother had this fridge in Avocado for over almost 20 years. She bought it used in 1978 when they moved into their house in the "city". It "died" in 98 or so, probably repairable, but it was replaced by a top-freezer Hotpoint I think. I remember...
