    New Downey Unstopable

One Question.... ...I know that all these scents are flooding the marketplace, but what is wrong with just the smell of clean fabric, preferably dried outdoors on a breezy day?

    Found this regarding warm rinsing.

Warm Rinses.... ....were much more important in the days when people still used soap flakes for laundry. Warm water rinses these out of the fibers better than cold. I'm old enough to remember (and own) machines with warm rinses, and it didn't make a noticeable difference when using synthetic...

    1968 Magnavox console stereo catalog

Astrosonic.... I have a French Provincial Astrosonic from 1966 or so (it's old enough to still say Astrosonic High Fidelity but new enough to have that non-curved tonearm)....picked it up at Value Village for $20. I couldn't let it languish there!   It still works beautifully....FM radio...

    Dishwasher for FREE.......

"Run and don't look back, almost makes a D & M machi My family must be awfully nice to dishwashers, because up until this year, we have only had D&M or WCI Frigidaire designs. We had a 1960s Kenmore top-loader, followed by a 1970's Kenmore portable, and then a late 80's D&M design. The last one...

    Brightgreen non Chlorine Bleach

Actually....Yes I like the non-chlorine bleach too, and it's a real bargain compared to the Ecover or Seventh Generation. I use their all purpose spray cleaner, the bathroom cleaner, and the toilet bowl cleaner as well. All of them work very well and are very reasonably priced.   The only one...

    Towels

Target... ...I'll second Target on the bath towels. I bought a nice set of medium size and weight towels for very reasonable there. They were a little flimsy feeling out of the package, but are nice and fluffy and thirsty after washing them. IKEA (if you have one near you) also has some very...

    Tips for line drying

Interesting article, but I disagree with running an extra spin cycle. It won't remove THAT much more water. I tend to use a slower spin on my outdoor dried stuff. It makes for fewer wrinkles that way.

    Kirkland Washing Liquid or Tide

Well.... ...if it's anything like the Kirkland Liquid I've bought here, it's pretty good stuff for a good price. Everything, even very dirty garden clothes came nice and clean in my top loader, even in temperature controlled cold water. Plus, they weren't overly scented once the clothes were...

    Corelle from Corning

Peach and Blue... ...don't recall the name but my set was peach and blue. My grandmother has it now...she liked it much better than me. I wanted Abundance, and then settled. It's all been replaced by IKEA 365 feldspar porcelain in white....never will get tired of those! :)

    Wizard washer

Sadly, by the time I noticed them...they were Norge built with perforated tubs....although the clunks were fun and the agitation were very good.

    Watkins Flavorings

I've seen the Watkins stuff at Target here as well. I usually get mine (along with their wonderful dessert mixes) from a distributor in southern Oregon that works the county fair.

    Unknown wringer washer

Maybe I'm Wrong... ...but it looks kinda Speed Queenish. Is it one of the machines branded by a catalog retailer...I remember Sears selling something similar when I was a kid....

    Removing mildew from laundry

Damp Rid... Another thing you might want to consider for your linen and clothes closet is Damp Rid to keep the humidity down to begin with. I have such dry summers here that mildew isn't a problem, but it certainly helps in a damp basement. Just empty it occasionally. Silica gel packets might...

Need compact dishwasher help me decide 18" GE profile or Single Kitchenaid Drawer

Just my own personal experience.... ...but after living with an 18 inch model for 9 years, I was more than happy to sacrifice an extra 6" of space.

    Homemade Laundry Detergent

"Why one would ever want to go back to last century clea Mine was sheer curiosity....to see how well people did with primitive products a few generations ago. So, I made some lye soap at home, got some old time laundry products, and gave it a try. :) Truth is, you CAN do a beautiful wash with...

If you could only have ONE small electric appliance...

Iced Tea Maker.... ...hands down, the most used small electric appliance of the many I own!

Will A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum's Superfresh, & Food Emporium last?

I doubt they're around much longer... ...it's a nationwide trend. Fred Meyer was an independent Portland company that was absorbed by Kroger...the stores that did well are still around under new management. The others are history. So are a lot of independent grocers out here. If that chain of...

Year when US manufacturers stopped using porcelain interiors on dishwashers?

My old Kenmore (D&M design) has a plastic door liner and porcelain tub. I bought it new in late 1989. It's still in service at my mom's house. My 18 inch was all plastic, as is my new GE portable. I was pretty careful not to chip the interior and it hasn't had a rust problem to date. Neither did...

    Homemade Laundry Detergent

I've used soap before in my laundry.... ....and I've had a fair amount of success with it. I also have some of the softest water around. Except for the rare occasions when we switch to the well fields, my water is less than half a grain of hardness per gallon. Soap rinses well in those...
