1952 GE Refrigerator Miracle or Madness?

Here is the not so great Fridge that is in the garage that will hopefully be replaced with an old one soon. It doesn't work very well in the winter in here. I had an 70s fridge that I regretfully got rid of for this that worked a lot better. Anyway I am thinking why not get a cool fridge and...

1952 GE Refrigerator Miracle or Madness?

So Here is that process I use on a lot of the old stuff I get. This is really rusty so I am using very fine sandpaper like 1500 or crocus cloth and giving it a good rubbing with soft scrub with bleach. That red goo is all rust...

1952 GE Refrigerator Miracle or Madness?

Well as I was looking for some parts for the 1954 GE fridge this '52 COMBINATION showed up so I figured I might as well go get it. It is actually in better shape than the donor machine it is rusty but no big dents. So here it is but it wasn't running too well. The refrigerator part was too...

    1954 GE combination fridge

So here is the question. One of the reasons I did bother to get it was the problems with the other thread and that 57 GE. Here I have all these parts that I can stash away in case this one breaks. I am looking for suggestions and guidance on how to keep this compressor in storage -- right...

    1954 GE combination fridge

So Years ago my son broke the plastic shelve that holds the crisper drawers and ever since they have been just sitting in the bottom. I have occasionally been looking on craigslist for something to replace them with but usually there is just another restorable fridge that is pretty expensive...

    Older coil elements

I have wondered if like deep fat frying over these, and then it spills over -- seems like a fire hazard if not a mess to clean up. Prefer the Calrod unit in the GEs

1963 modernist House--Any experts on Mortise door Lock Entry / Entrance ?

I have taken out and put in many of these mortise locks, as you mention they still make them. In some ways they are simpler than modern ones. I do agree that that shaft is really strange. At the salvage yards here there are 100s of knobs and shafts and locks, though there are odd ball...

    Westinghouse Dryer

New Home Well I wanted to post about the going on with the D-6. I am very excited as I can tell this machine is going to be much easier to maintain and fix over the D-5. The D-5 timer is going to be a major problem as it has this over large gear on the motor that does turn in one direction --...

Very Old Whirlpool Washer and Dryer in Los Angeles Area

Looks like pipes in the picture on the dryer. Is that a gas dryer?

Very Old Whirlpool Washer and Dryer in Los Angeles Area

I'd like to see the insides of the dryer if you get a chance. And the washer too. There is need to lubricate the blower fan shaft located in the upper left if you open the back up. It probably has never been done.

1956 Westinghouse Laundromat Washer "I need a pump"

Good work I'd take off the front panel and look for the leak. That pump should be an easy fix. Good luck.

    Sharpie on Westinghouse dryer

So many of you may have a vintage machine you baby through the work but try having people who don't appreciate these things trash them through the major pile of laundry that has to be done every day and it give you a different perspective on using a 70 year old appliance. Here is my 54 dryer...

    1955 W dryer now home!

I Wish I had kept that part from a dryer I recently parted out, I would have given it to you. I don't think the BJ weld will work, it needs a little real weld though it looks like you might be able to put a small metal brace next to that area with some screws to secure it. Best of luck...
