    Strange Spinner

Perhaps those are the only English words he knows.

    Strange Spinner

Contacted seller! I emailed the seller of the spinner: Hi there, My apologies for contacting you in English but I don't speak German. I am from UK but living in western Hungary. I really like the spinner but could you tell me the approximate dimensions so I can check whether it would fit...

    Strange Spinner

Wow, perhaps I should buy the Miele and get it shipped to the States if they are charging $4000 for a new commercial spinner there.

    Strange Spinner

Thanks Louis, so it is fairly slow for a spin dryer. It would still by nice to have but not as useful as a faster spinner.

    Strange Spinner

Do any of the numbers on the rating plate refer to the spin speed? It looks like the motor is on the side so it is probably belt driven rather than direct drive.

What Is Your Water Consumption Footprint?

I failed at the first question, zip code! I have wondered about big food processing plants. They must be buying all the water they use so do they just use it once and throw it away or do they have their own filtration plants to recycle it? At home I do try to minimise my water use, as this is...

    Strange Spinner

Further to the thread about the unusual washer seen on the Austrian classified ads site, I had a look for anything else of interest and found this Miele spinner. I am on the lookout for a spin dryer but will probably find one nearer to home. http://www.willhaben.at/iad/viewimage?adId=66806304#2

have you ever seen something like this??

I would be tempted myself by this as it's only 400 km from me. This video is of a machine of the same brand but it looks like my little Bendix compact washer:

    Smiths gauges and Lucas electrics

I've never heard of a Lucas fridge but in the UK classic motorcycle community we refer to Joseph Lucas as the "Prince of Darkness" in reference to the lighting equipment! At least Smiths only made non essential parts like speedometers and gauges so if they fail you can still get to your destination.

    Tumble Dryers

I would not touch a new Hotpoint, Creda or Indesit dryer with a 10 foot barge pole unless they have changed considerably in the last 2 years! They are just flimsy junk compared to their older models. They did help to keep me in work as they are so unreliable.

oil stains on laundry need help fixing Maytag SE1000

Excuse my ignorance of all things Maytag but why do you need to change the transmission just for an oil leak? Do that not supply parts to repair them?

    Hoover 455 (A3072) Washer Overhaul Pt 2

Actually the rear bearing seems more liable to fail than the front so I have put new rear bearings in quite a few Hotpoint GEC motors over the years. Yes, I think the pulley is probably shrunk on before the armature is wound and you could probably not heat it enough to remove it without damaging...

    Motor control Boards

The information that crouzet provided should be enough to get something working. If you look at one of the boards you should see that there is a series of resistors for switching in different speeds. To get a simple switched speed control you could get a multi position wafer switch such as would...

Need Electrical Advice for Heavy Old Wall Sconce

Interesting. I've never seen anything like that nut it sounds from the other replies that they are (or were) quite popular on your side of the pond. We have various brass and wooden wall lights but I've never seen an iron one, apart from perhaps in a church or castle.

    HOOVER D6150 Dryer de luxe

If they made machines that lasted 30 years now, what would they manufacture when everyone had got one? In the days that Hoover was made, most customers were probably buying their first dryer but now they are mainly looking at the replacement market plus people setting up their first home.

Need Electrical Advice for Heavy Old Wall Sconce

I suppose it depends on what wall it needs to go on. The only way I can see is to have a length of threaded bar that goes right through the wall with a nut and big washer on the other side. This would mean disturbing the decoration in the next room if it is an internal wall. If it's an outside...

    Hoover 455 (A3072) Washer Overhaul Pt 3

Quite a labour of love! I hope the repair to the sump hose stub holds up with the vibration etc. If not, it could be welded at a later date. I suppose it is different when you are doing the restoration as an enthusiast rather than (as in my case) as a reconditioner. I would have fitted a modern...

    Hoover 455 (A3072) Washer Overhaul Pt 2

Qualtex, that explains it. When I first started in the trade I had an account with Crum & Sons of Glasgow. They were Qualtex agents but they were hopeless, sending the wrong parts all the time. I soon abandoned them in favour of other suppliers, athough I probably still have an old Qualtex...
