    European Fridges

Ah, then I must have a 45 cm wide dishwasher on a 50 cm wide fridge :)

    European Fridges

Hmm, I hadn't thought of a fridge on the dryer. But a wider fridge also means a wider door and that has to open into the room. Now that is actually my main concern. What I was thinking of was a 50 cm wide fridge on a 50 cm wide dishwasher...

    European Fridges

My fridge is from Dometic. It is a very small absorption type fridge for offices, campings etc. I have borrowed it from my work to replace my old fridge that was very energy inefficient. Even though the Dometic is an absorption fridge it consumes about half the energy of what my old fridge...

    European Fridges

"Zaanse Hoeve" is the cheapest brand of yoghurt at Albert Heijn supermarket and I have no problems with the taste and consistency. It's similar to the AH brand in my opinion. Sometimes I go to other supermarkets: the "Zuivel" brand is from C1000. C1000 also has "Campina", but I don't like that...

All inside... My refrigerator completely filled up.

    European Fridges

For Louis... I just bought some yoghurt to prove my statement. I was a bit unlucky as I had to go to a second shop as the first one didn't have any fat free yoghurt left on the shelve. I also couldn't buy Ecover detergent as that shop did close early because of annual stock-taking and I was...

    European Fridges

OK, I'll buy some extra yoghurt this afternoon!

    European Fridges

Well, I can manage with this fridge... With some effort I can put 9 one-litre cartons of yoghurt inside :) I go to the supermarket every day, so I don't need a large fridge right now.

To Our UK, Commonwealth and Netherlands Friends: Happy Boxing Day!

Well, thank you for your your good wishes, but here in the Netherlands we don't have a Boxing Day. Instead we have two Christmas Days: the First Christmas Day and the Second Christmas Day. Until a few years ago both days were holidays and all shops were closed. Now some shops are open on Second...

Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

Here in Europe winter has struck too. Amsterdam got relatively little snow but enough to reduce traffic significantly so that it was wonderfully quiet today. It is uncertain whether we will have a white Christmas. Temperatures are rising and we are having a thunderstorm right now.

    Totally OT - Parallel Parking

I'm glad we don't have cycling licences... I have tried in the past to get a driving licence but failed many times. It proved too difficult for me and it costed me several thousand euros (well, guilders actually). So I stick to cycling and have no parking problems:) I am sure that I would have...

8 December 1959!! Louis of The Netherlands

Louis, That's a nice bicycle, my boss has the same one. However, I think that a Fongers is more appropriate for you :) (For the non-Dutch: Fongers bicycles were produced in Groningen. They were renowned for their high quality.)

Virtual Tourism via Google Street View

For new brushes and bags I go to "De Stofzuigerkoning" (= The Vacuum Cleaner King), although I also order parts online. One of my vacuums is so uncommon that I do not know a shop that has parts for it...

Virtual Tourism via Google Street View

Uh-oh, I see that my street is now also covered... Luckily I live on the second floor so you can't look inside :- <br I also notice that the images are quite recent. I can see the mosquito screen of my new neighbours that has been installed this summer.

    Launching of a ship

So, coasters are still being built in Groningen? It is many years ago when I saw this in Amsterdam and I don't think that we will see the launching of large ships ever again here.

    Germicidal Lamps

Real germicidal lamps are not harmless and can cause severe eye damage. Many paints and plastics will rapidly age when exposed to the radiation and ozone will do a similar thing with rubber parts. Maybe these bulbs are just what they look like: blue lamps?

    Fall back

According to the official information here, summertime is not for saving energy but for having an extra hour available for outdoor leisure activities. In winter it is too cold for these and the clock is turned back because otherwise a large part of the morning (till 9:30 am in the Netherlands)...

One More Time Please - Rust Removal

Talking about figures... Naturally I was looking for some facts about oxalic acid and I found a table that the oxalic acid content of vegetables like spinach, chives and parsley is comparable or even higher than that of rhubarb and yet I don't hear much about poisoning cases with these. And...

One More Time Please - Rust Removal

Hmm... To my knowledge rhubarb poisoning is caused not by oxalic acid alone. The leaves contain other toxins too and it is still exceptional to develop symptoms after consuming only one leaf. Maybe it was another plant species. And out of curiosity: what is formic acid used for? I have no idea...
