    Baking Issue -- Need Advice

Eddie .... you know, I have seen that but never tried it. I bet it would be a good alternative. As for the coconut cake, the outside is covered in coconut and the slight dry/firm texture of the fresh frozen is almost what you come to expect any coconut cake to be like. But I will definitely try...

    Baking Issue -- Need Advice

Ralph ..... couldn't get the frozen this year so we got a couple of coconuts and shredded them ..... because one year we forgot to look for the frozen coconut and used the dry variety.  It was definitely NOT as good and lacked the coconut flavor as the fresh provides.  I have found that the...

    Nonstick Cookware? Me?!

Well ...... the nonstick "ceramic" coated fry pan (Caraway branded) purchased last year started out great ..... then started sticking. A year later, can't even fry an egg w/o a total stuck mess and wasting half the egg.  Always used plastic or silicone utensils and often just hand washed and...

Windows 7 slowing down to a standstill

Interesting ..... I run Windows 7 Pro and Chrome Canary Beta browser. I run the paid version of Malwarebytes as well. It updates and runs everyday in the background.  I used the free version of Malwarebytes for a few months and was impressed, so I upgraded.   I run this identical setup on a...

    Baking Issue -- Need Advice

Awesome ..... Glad you liked it Ralph! It came from Southern Living magazine, circa 1981 but was reprinted in 2017. I bet it was reprinted a few times previous to that as well.   If you liked that cake there is one more that blows that one out of the water, IMHO.  It is an old fashioned...

Operator ERROR! aka "People Are Stupid!"

My lawnmower ..... had 9, count'em 9 labels on the damn thing. Either warning labels or how to labels ..... and it comes with a manual. First thing I do is get the heat gun and warm up the labels and pull the ugly things off. And I don't need 2 labels (one on each side) on my hammer telling me...

Frigidaire 1953 Model RT-20 Electric Range

Beautiful ..... kitchen! Love how you incorporated the vintage stove.    Drip pans should be easy to find .... since there are a ton of universal ones. Someone here should be able to suggest how to go about measuring and matching up replacements. Good luck, it's a beauty.   Bud - Roswell, GA

    Baking Issue -- Need Advice

Well heck ...... working from memory and finding out it isn't working all that well these days.   Yep, my recall on the temp of the pound cake was way off after checking the recipe. I must have extrapolated the temp, based on (what I think is a long bake time - 1hr & 30mins for any cake)...

    Baking Issue -- Need Advice

Convection oven ...... My GE Profile wall mount oven automatically decreases the temp. If I set it to bake with convection to 375, it never goes above 350. The southern pound cake recipe the wife baked last week calls for 425. She uses the convection option to bake cakes. After setting the...

GE Monitor Top Fridge Repair - Capillary Tube conversion...

Does anyone know ..... what manufacturer came up with the capillary tube to replace a float or expansion valve design and about what year? The capillary tube is such an elegant and simple design and negated many points of failure. Just curious who invented it and about what year it happened...

Just came across this Gasket House for Fridges

I've used ..... etundra.com twice now for 2 refrigerator restorations and they have just about every profile of gasket imaginable. And their prices are much better. If you need to splice, glue the joints with this stuff. The ones I glued are like they were heat welded. This glue softens the...

Any information on vintage fridge defrosters ??

Good question .... the food stays frozen solid and have never noticed any food quality issue like with milk or butter. Depending on the fridge either has a tray or a drain. Mine has a drain that leads down to a small plastic container in the back of the main compartment. I look back there...

Any information on vintage fridge defrosters ??

I use ...... a hair dryer. Only takes a few minutes .... and a couple of towels. Easy peasy and no worries. Or you could make your own defrost timer .... which was something that was sold going all the way back to the beginnings of residential refrigerators. Once frostless refrigerators came...

Troubleshooting Help needed with electronic sensor; Kenmore HD Soft Heat 'Ultra Fabric Care' Dryer.

Dryness board .... David, I cross referenced the model number and found the part number for the board, #61236. Ebay has 7 of them at the moment and the board has several cross ref numbers to look under as listed on a few ebay listings: https://www.ebay.com/i/123739953393 Bud - Atlanta...

    .... '62 Frigidaire Dryer motor .....

Motor going back in ..... here is the dryer motor being reunited to the current restoration of the Frigidaire DDA-62. I probably should start a new thread to show the work on this dryer as progress is made. Every part of it has either been repainted, replated, or replaced.
