    California Electricity Dilemma

These terms can be Googled. I did, only two exist. And theyre terms used in accounting. You're telling my 3 mile Island was controlled by servers and desktop computers? The controls for second generation and third gen reactors is mostly based off of PID loops backed by pneumatics. There...

    California Electricity Dilemma

Also, there is nothing wrong with decay heat, or the thermal mass of a reactor in normal start up or shut down- on the contrary you want a gradual heating in a reactor. These are all taken into account and dealt with accordingly by the operators. I said this in an earlier reply. Thanks for...

    California Electricity Dilemma

I never said it was a bad thing. Its a good thing. But the level of education and certs required adds to their complexity. "static and passive assets vs active mechanisms" hahaha what are you talking about? "Nuclear plants have been controlled by relay logic" No, they're not, and I dont...

    California Electricity Dilemma

@chetlaham "Which is all peanuts in comparison to the overall longevity and the large number of components that do not need replacement or those that require relatively cheap overhauls." As I have stated, any maintenance or contract work in a nuke plant is a magnitude greater than that of a...

    California Electricity Dilemma

@chetlaham "All you've got is water, steam and metal. Not much to wear out or age in comparison." Uhh... ahhahaah... hmm... There is a lot to unpack there. Thats a big no from me, dog. Its not just water, steam, and metal, and thats not "not much to wear out". Power plants, regardless if its...

    California Electricity Dilemma

EVs make a lot of sense when you consider the power generated to charge them can either be nuclear, or a thermal plant with a carbon capture system on it. Thats true net zero. That makes total sense to me and I totally applaud and want that idea. That would remove a significant amount of GHGs...

Maytag dryer bell dongs, not dings.

DE712 dryer of mine, the bell makes more of a dong/thud sound. I want to check out the solenoid, but before I do does anyone have an idea of where I should look? Everything moves and isn't obstructed in the bell/solenoid mechanism.

    California Electricity Dilemma

@chetlaham Nuke plants are significantly more complex than any thermal plant. Having spent time in a thermal generating station, I can confidently say this. Thermal stations can also be scaled in any size from small to large. Generally one unit peaks out at around 6-800MW, but you can have...

    California Electricity Dilemma

I don't think people fully understand how much load EVs will put on the grid. People are forgetting that in the last twenty years we have made serious strides in reducing consumption on basic things like light bulbs all the way up to electric water heaters and electric baseboard heating for...

    Finally found Grandma’s Filter Flo…

Congratulations! I had this exact machine in white. It was bad though, bad outter tub and basket mount on the transmission. I got this machine right around when I took a hiatus from collecting. Pictures of it are in my post history somewhere, and since you're not a premium member, I'll post the...

Canadian 70s/80s Kenmore and possible GE spotted in the wild

The dryer should be right around the early 80s.    I cant nail down which brand that washer is, it is a Camco machine, but I cant tell if its Hotpoint or Moffat. It is a late 80s machine. The early and mid 80s machines had a lot more brown, red, orange, and faux wood paneling.

do any aw member knows the year of this whirlpool dd washer?

Thats a DD machine, looks to be a Canadian machine as I can make out the water level and temp are symbols and not words. I think Whirlpool stopped making BD machines here in Canada in the early 90s, say 91-92, so I'd say this machine is within that very early 90s to mid 90s range.

Modern makes of vintage Washers and Dryers

I've purchased and picked up lots of free old appliances and I can safely say in my experience, I never found wiring on a WP, MT, or GE machine that was thinner than  14 wiring. The WP world washer uses nice and thin wiring throughout. Does that mean it's junk? No, because these washers aren't...

    Maytag A806

I too hummed and hawed over converting the fluorescent bulb to LED. I had to look around a bit to find starters for it, and I eventually did. You can convert it to a more modern fluorescent bulb system with a built in ballast/starter. And while LEDs can be a colder light, you can buy warm colour...

Acceptable gasket material? Drain pump leak Kenmore 587

I don't think RTV or whatever liquid gasketing material would be a bad idea. Give it a whirl, might be hard to take apart in the future though haha!

Modern makes of vintage Washers and Dryers

No, these old styles of washers will never come back. We have to stop speculating if they will, because they won't. I bet it has nothing to do with regulatory reasons or patent validity as to why, and has everything to do with the cost to make these machines. The margins on old machines would...

GE P7 wall oven, clean control panel, replace screws

Hey Sarah,    I'd place a bet the control panel glass is held in by that chrome bezel/trim that surrounds the control panel, which to me once the knobs are gone, means its probably a total stove disassembly lol, I fear the stove has to come out of the cabinetry to get to what fastens all of...

    Electrical Questions Regarding Multiple Machines

In short, get a second and third independent circuit ran if you want all machines to be on at once. Why? So you're in the US and I am in Canada. There are some differences between electrical codes of course, but as time goes on the gaps between Canadian and US codes, and even state to state...

    DWU9962 "Blocked drain" nonsense

So I had parts from a DWU9962 I picked up years ago and I assembled them in to a functional machine the other day. I ran the test cycle and everything came back fine with exception of the rinse aid dispenser (since I dont have one with the sensor in it, so the current sensor is unplugged), and a...
