    Nesco Roasters

Westinghouse Roaster-Oven What a blessing this was at our summer cottage for many summers! Always had guests coming to enjoy the lake=lots to feed. So easy to do a turkey breast, loin of pork, or several meatloaves on the porch to keep the place cool. Ours had the "look in" top window so you...

    Cat Owners

@ pulsator-power Try double-sided tape on corners or wherever they seem to "hit". Cats HATE anything sticky. After awhile you can discontinue once they've gotten the hint. Easy to apply and remove. Just be sure to have alternative scratching posts or those cheap corrugated cardboard things...

Television & Movie Vehicles: Part One

@twintubdexter Long Long Trailer=my favorite movie ever! Just recently learned about the car swap for the mountain pass scene. Seems they needed the Lincoln's bigger engine to do the job. I must have watched this movie over 100 times and never noticed that!

    Cocktail Hour

@ Davey 7 What a beautiful presentation! I've always found that something "hot", even if it's just cocktail weenies, makes all the difference. So do fresh flowers! Kudos from the Garden State!

    Cocktail Hour

Gary/Tim Do you mean the deviled ham in a can, or what you make from leftover smoked or boiled ham? Your stuff sounds tantalizing. My friends and I often meet at my house to go out for an early movie and dinner afterwards. I like to have some kind of nosh to go with a quick drink before the...

Bureau of Silly Threads Presents: My First Car

1959 Ford Galaxie similar to this one. Shot transmission, unremarkable acceleration, hit-and-miss radio reception, spotty oil pressure, and many other extras. Fortunately, we lived on a hill so I could roll it down to start when needed. Burned oil like crazy, I used to buy the re-refined stuff...

    Who Still Irons?

I do! I do! Just about everything except sheets, towels sox and underoos.  Fire up the Proctor-Silex "Steam Master" with distilled water (or at this time of the year, water from the dehumidifier).  Set up the ironing board (vented) in the dining room facing the TV, tune in the Mets game and go...

    Washing up in Paris

Thanx Kevin! For the great pix and info! It's been a life hope for me to take advantage of the "Chunnel" so I could say "I see London, I see France" LOL. Sadly, with the demise of the Concorde (Honest, I had $$$ saved up to use it), I will never get to the continent. Unless teleportation...

Store Brands of appliances and electronics that are gone

In The Garden State it was "Vornado" appliances (large and small)at Two Guys from Harrison discount stores. Try to find anything but a fan still operational today! IIRC, they carried off-brand stuff like Indesit, Welbilt, and others.

    Readers Rides 2012

Look at my avatar 2012 Ford Fusion. Drove VWs exclusively since 1980, they disappointed me more and more over the years. Thought it was time for a change. I drove Fords from 1974-1980, just made the change because of the gas crises in the 1970s. Love my Fusion.

New GE 3.9 cu ft. Agitator Washer

@ qualin According to my GE factory rep, the raised ridges in the tub have nothing to do with cleaning.  Their purpose is to add "area" to the tub so that more fabric comes in contact during the spin to maximize liquid removal.  We don't have these models yet, they're supposed to come in to our...

    Childhood Kitchens

Picture It: 1960 My parents looked for a long time to get us out of the 'hood. Finally, the day came, my OM came home and said "Ann, I found a place where you can pull the car in right next to the kitchen and bring the groceries right in!!!"  That sold my OL right there!  After years of parking...

    Canned Tuna Without Soy

Ugh! My trip through ShopRite today left me with (literally) a bad taste in my mouth. After hearing the admonition "Sorry, Charlie" for most of my life, I was disgusted to see what's passing for funa tish these days. We in northern NJ are fortunate to have a small-scale supermarket chain...

    Pre-Treat Adjustments?

@Laundress Do you find that Zout works well?  I used it when it first came out, but found its effectiveness diminshed later.  Have they come out with improvements in the past five years or so?

    Pre-Treat Adjustments?

Never seen this addressed here. If you do a lot of pre-treating for a load, should you adjust the amount of detergent? Sometimes my shirts from THD duty need a lot of attention. As do clothing/bedding that have experienced the heartbreak of psoriasis. Is regular dosing overkill or waste...
