Vintage Kenmore Washing Machine & Dryer In Cleveland

Seller says Sears mistakenly sent the wrong dryer when his parents bought the set. LOVE those ORIGINAL motors!

    Microwave oven starting by itself

Sticky relay? Or faulty control board? I can't see any other possibility.

    What's a good oven light bulb ?

Aero-Tech experience... Several years ago, back when the know-it-all, big-brother-minded politicians decided that we were no longer able to make our own decisions as to what kind of lightbulbs to use, I discovered this company. I ordered a box of six bug light bulbs for the outdoor fixtures at...

Scrappers Hopefully you're right. Many of these destroyers of history and quality have the mistaken idea that motors are full of copper, which they are not. They're full of iron, and a *little* bit of copper.

Frigilux I agree. There never has been, nor ever will be a time that was or is perfect. As much as I long for the past, when quality and style were king, I begrudgingly admit that I am better off in the present, for many of the reasons you site, but other reasons as well. The most important...

Big Boy washer by Ametek/Troy - This sounds MEAN!!!

Motor starting Is what that sounds like to me. Induction motors started "across the line" typically do make loud magnetic sounds. If the motor is started without load, it comes up to speed quickly enough that it isn't really noticeable. But this one is starting against the load of the...

Hard Glass It is entirely possible that the original tub light bulb was made of "hard glass", which would resist breakage due to thermal shock. But once these burned out, they more than likely got replaced with ordinary bulbs, which of course will pop when splashed, as mentioned. I wonder if...

    Picking this up tomorrow

Interesting pulley on that motor... Looks like part of a variable ratio drive? Wish I wasn't selling my houses. And garages lol.

Tub Light! As a lightbulb collector, I would LOVE to have a clear photo of the label and the base of that 1958 lightbulb! It's very rare to get to know exactly when a lightbulb was made. By documenting known ones, it helps to identify those that are found in the wild. :) Keith

One from the Ogden 'project list' - 1947 Bendix coming back to life

Keeping to originality I for one appreciate your dedication down to the detail of saving the original electrical connectors. Save that old valve, and somehow, someone in the future may be able to get it going again. And it'll plug right into the original connectors. :) In the meantime...

    Morphy Richards Astral....

Centrifuges The one time I have been to Europe was with my parents, in 1987. I distinctly remember that the laundromats had centrifuges for use after the automatic washers and before the dryers. I thought that was so cool! Not that I have been to many laundromats here, but I have never seen...

1985 Maytag A810 Washer and Maytag DG810 Gas Dryer

Modern Front Loaders My mom has one, I don't even know what brand. Maybe LG, I think? It does many things that I don't like! I don't trust it to clean clothes at all. Such that when I'm working on mine, and it is offered for use, I end up letting our laundry stack up instead lol. The one...

Do you collectors have any YouTube channels?

Easier than photos! I take videos of stuff that I want to share. Sometimes a photo or two will do, other times it's easier to just video. https://m.youtube.com/user/realvanman1 Keith

1985 Maytag A810 Washer and Maytag DG810 Gas Dryer

The version right before mine? I just put my first Maytag into service, an A712. I'm told by the knowledgeable folks here that it was built in '84. It has the brown buttons instead of tan, and is lacking the on off buttons for the soak cycle. I've run probably five loads through it so far...

    E2lp gear case lockup

Oh Dear! My Crown buses have hundreds (even thousands?) of the old Gulmite fasteners! The tools for those are extremely difficult to find. In the (usual) absence of the correct tool, a common way to deal with them is to use a cutoff wheel in a Dremel to grind a slot in the head and use a...
