Do top-loaders truly wash clothes better than front-loaders?

When my Mom's old Maytag gave up the ghost last summer, I gave my fairly new Speed Queen top loader to her, along with the matching dryer.  I then decided to give a front loader a whirl and purchased an LG 3900 pair.  I've been very happy with them too.  The washer does an excellent job.  I most...

Lorain Furniture (Cleveland, Ohio) Maytag A806 restoration...

I enjoy Eugene's videos and have learned a lot from him that I've been able to apply in a couple of restorations that I've done.  I'm puzzled by Sudster's reply.  I found it incredibly mean spirited.  Thank you, Eugene, for the fantastic job you do with your site!

    Speed Queen Combo

What a great find!  I had no idea that Speed Queen made a combo.  I look forward to see more updates on the restoration process!

Dryer Control Board Yes, it works for the dryer as well.  I did an upgrade of a commercial washer and dryer with new control boards.  I think about the only difference is that the commercial dryer does not have a drum light where the home model did.

    A407 pilot light

The pilot light will remain on after a cycle is finished until you turn the machine off.  It does that to remind you that the washer needs to be unloaded.

    interesting article

I want to echo what IowaBear said.  If there is a return to shorter cycles, then I suspect that detergents would need to be reformulated since they are designed to work effectively with longer cycles times.    I use the short cycle (1 hour) on my Maytag DW most of the time, and it cleans quite...

    Maytag A885 washer

As already noted earlier, I would leave it alone.  When you do decide to replace the seal, you won't need to remove the brake package.  The transmission can be removed while leaving the tub break in place.  Just remove the screw on the bottom of the pulley, along with the lug and washer.  Spin...

    Early Laundromat

I stumbled across this photo of an early laundromat in Fort Worth, Texas.  Each station appears to have a wringer washer.  I suppose patrons washed and rinsed their clothes and wrung them out and then took them home to dry?

    A "New" Harvest Gold Queen

That SQ is circa 1986.  I had the same washer and bought it new.  I had it until about four years ago.  The only thing I ever did was replace the belt and fill valve.

A couple of questions on the Maytag Center Dial washers

I had an A407 that was built around 1974 (I think) that always defaulted to a cold rinse on warm and cold washes.  On a hot wash, it defaulted to a warm rinse and that included the spray rinse.
