Don't drive around with your Tide in a baggy....

Dr. Bronner's Soap I wouldn't carry liquid detergent if I were worried about the field tests. If you google Dr. Bronner's Soap and drug test, you'll find out that, at least since 2007 or so, they are trying to make the police stop using their field tests because, according to Dr. Bronner's...

    Bosch or FisherPaykel Dishwasher?

It seems to me that the risk of them not making the F&P DishDrawers is small, not only because there is a slice of the market that really likes them, but also because they are the standard 24" wide, so if something someday, god forbid, that stops them from being available, the worst that happens...

    Bosch or FisherPaykel Dishwasher?

My two cents: At this point in the game, I would try very hard to buy a dishwasher with a built-in water softener if you can, particularly if you have hard water piped to the dishwasher. Several brands, including Bosch and F&P sell them. I am not exactly sure how much more a model with a...

    A novice's question!

I may be wrong, but I believe that GE had the Harmony (LG based, I think) before the others came out -- at that time, Kenmore/Whirlpool were selling the Calypso.

Kitchen Appliances That Never Quite Fullfilled Their Promises

Rotating devices like that had a funny hit ratio -- some people loved them and some hated them. My feeling is that for people who had a good microwave oven with a decent stirrer fan probably didn't care for them much, because you only had to rotate the food a couple of times during cooking...

    Coil element temperature limiting

If the stove is new, tell the landlord to call the manufacturer or call them yourself, it should still be under warranty, right? Why let it bother you when they are supposed to fix it for free? (Although, to be honest, there's a small risk they'll make it worse, in which case you may have to...

Pot Filler Faucets - What Am I Missing?

I suppose those people who own a pot-filler faucet don't have any cats, right? (I've heard of too many cases of cats jumping onto stovetops, sometimes turning on a burner or more and even setting themselves on fire and then running around the home in panic. Not fun.)

Kitchen Appliances That Never Quite Fullfilled Their Promises

Thomas Ortega complained about the Bosch/Siemens Liftmatic oven. I watched the video linked. So many questions! Wow. Even supposing that the thing never broke and worked for 20 years as it was supposed to work... how did that make it into production? Sure, I can see the geek appeal. But it...

    What's now cooking at home

Bob (Appnut) said: «Induction is the best "compromise" between gas & electric.» I might have agreed a few decades ago. Back then, I knew about induction cooking, but had no direct experience with it. Now, from my perspective, induction cooking is a combination of what's best about gas and...

Kitchen Appliances That Never Quite Fullfilled Their Promises

My experience with microwave "ovens" is not the same as yours. My mom used to make a pork roast in the microwave that was quite moist and delicious. My aunt told my mom to her face "well, if you don't want to give me the recipe, don't give me the recipe, but don't lie to me it was nuked", and...

    Any sewists?

A serger is also known as an overlocker. It can produce several different kinds of stitches, including chain stitch and a cover stitch. Some stitches are a combination, for example, if it has 5-thread capabilities, it can overlook the raw edge to prevent it from fraying and at the same time put...

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

Stan, First off, there are some organisms, I forgot if they are bacteria or fungi, or maybe both, you can google and find out, but there are organisms that were found in highly acidic effluents from active volcanos. Ah, there, found some examples, but there's more...

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. Sure, we can heat up any metal pan to a high temp and "sterilize" it. We can heat up some ceramic (not coating, real ceramic made with clay) to even higher temps, until they glow white. But the two points people are trying to make, to contrast...

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

This last article is pretty much the kind of thing people should be ashamed of. First, off, and this makes me laugh, when did non-stick, which used to be pretty high-tech not too long ago, became "conventional" anything? Second, one of the major characteristics of fluoropolymers is that they...

FINALLY ! The new Whirlpool Washer Dryer Combo has been released

Recirculation pumps I forgot if it was mid- to late 70's or early 80's, euro machines had recirculation pumps (I remember AEG's JetSystem, for example). And that's to say nothing about WP's own combo which also had a recirculation pump at least 20 years before.
