    Democratic Convention in Denver

that's the military point I was making. That was the point I was making about the folks attempting to join the army. However, the article I read was that it was academic and other standards, and it specifically mentioned the fact that most young people were couch potatoes...and that physical...

    Democratic Convention in Denver

Thank you, Keven. Panthera, Thanks much for your previous (tasteful) post. I had been thinking exactly the same thing. Folks, if you wanna take the moral high ground, please do so. Please! Just to restate it - not that it matters - I see so little difference between these two candidates that...

    Democratic Convention in Denver

fascinating! Panthera, that's fascinating, but no surprise. Being for the wrong side of the tracks (in a big way!) I was LUCKY in that I went through school when you could get employer tuition assistance. So I did 2 years full time at junior college, then went to work and finished a BS and MS...

    Democratic Convention in Denver

but, really, folks... How can you honestly think that the democrats care about the working class, women, gays, or anyone? How can you think that the republicans do either? They are politicians -- they want POWER. No one is willing to face the fact that the USA has serious, endemic problems...

    Eco-Friendly Grocery Bags

Those LL Bean bags are great. But, I've found a very cheap alternative. We have some instances of a chain store here, Hobby Lobby. They have canvas bags for about $5. They're reasonable enough. The tyvek ones can be bought for $1 at the supermarket tho, but I like the canvas better.

    Eco-Friendly Grocery Bags

plastic bags, carbon, etc. As in so mnay things, it seems that green hysteria has made a simple solution more complicated. It is certainly a good idea to limit your impact on the environment. I do use reusable bags (though I forget them more often than I would like to admit). Actually, though...

Bosch vs Frigidaire FL--Apples & Oranges?

Really? Wow I thought I was the only one (well, the wife and I were the only ones) to truly hate the machines. I'm pretty easy - if something does a reasonable job, I'm fine with it. I didn't feel this way -- of course when you spend about 2K for a washer and dryer it doesn't seem...

Bosch vs Frigidaire FL--Apples & Oranges?

don't know if you bought yet... We bought a Bosch 500 -- we had a Euro size Asko and my wife's allergies have gotten SO bad we needed something that would do the king sized comforter. In short, the complaints we had about Bosch were as follows: 1. It didn't rinse the soap out. Now, we'd had...

Starbucks Releases US Store Closure List

People! Stop. Honestly folks, you're all being unreasonable. 7080swisher, you're engaging in the same behavior that you claim that those on the other side of the aisle are doing. Some of us here do believe that maximum personal freedom and minimum government interference in our lives (and...

Brand new American-made CorningWare? Well, kinda sorta . . .

Corning doesn't make Corningware. Corning no longer makes Corningware. They sold it to World Kitchens in the late nineties. BTW if you have grey scratches in your CW, it's because the metal items used to stir etc. OR the SOS pads have worn off on the glass. Get some of the cream used to clean...

Brand new American-made CorningWare? Well, kinda sorta . . .

New pyroceram? As many of us have, I have occasionally queried World Kitchens, suggesting that they bring pyroceram cookware back into production. I've always gotten emails saying 'Thank you for your comment, but we have no plans to do this. Consider buying the stoneware' (Not exact words but...

    Bread Machines

cost. For me, even though bakery bread is quite good, paying four to six times the cost it makes me to make a loaf that's just as good, makes it cost effective for me. Then again, no Wegmans here and few bakers. Safeway bread is okay but nothing to write home about.

Interesting Article On The Sale of GE Appliances . . .

all I can say... ...is that if high fuel prices are bringing industrial capacity back to the United States, I'll live with them as long as is necessary. Nate

    I wanna try wine

I agree. Wine is an acquired taste, one I've never gotten. I'm not a big drinker, but when I do, single malt scotch is my drink of choice :)

gay? borned to it..or learned behaviour...

I find such behavior apalling. I think O'Reilly was wrong -- no doubt. However, I actually think that most Public Displays of Affection are kind of...wierd. So I'd be a little uncomfortable WHOEVER was kissing in a Mayonnaise ad. Personally I've always been of the opinion that: 1. if you...

    Bread Machines

good point Maytagbear... I forgot that...the bread pans cannot go in the dishwasher. And do NOT add water to them until after they are absolutely cool. Some of the nonstick coating cannot take the heat shock if you put water in it while it is hot. Nate

    Bread Machines

It depends on the kind of bread you make and how serious you You can spend anywhere from $25 to $200 on a bread machine. I like various types of bread, and ended up buying a cheap Rival bread machine ($40), used it for a while, then decided I wanted something more. I now have (and am actually...
