What were your childhood interests in appliances, machinery, etc?

As a boy I was always interested in stove and refrigerators and there still lots of models from the late 1940's and 1950's around in people's kitchens. I was also fascinated by typewriters, adding machines, ditto/mimeograph machines and other office equipment.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - Please Read This...

Thank you, Robert, for all your work and dedication to this site over the many years! The new format will take some getting used to - like all new things - but it seems to be working just fine (for me, at least). Congratulations on your retirement, and I wish you all the best for your next...

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-four

Hi Louie, I just love these old ad threads! I agree with you and Eddie regarding Hydrox being way better than Oreo. It had a much better taste and texture. I also thought that Cheez-It crackers were much better when Sunshine made them instead of Kellogg's. Thanks for posting these great old...

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

@tomturbomatic: I do remember the floating bar of soap in the tub when I took baths as a kid. You could always find it. Funny how big the bathtub seemed when you're five years old! @circlew: thanks for the info. I wasn't aware there was another manufacturer making Ivory for P&G in the old...

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

In the world of ever-changing products, re-formulations, down-sizing, up-pricing and the overall rip-off to the consumer in the name of corporate consolidation and increased profits, they have decided to change Ivory soap. Apologies if I'm late to the party. This is something I just noticed...

Thanksgiving Is About Two Weeks Away-What's Everyone Cooking

The Thanksgiving turkey is already done. I roasted it last week when I had time. For many years I helped prepare Thanksgiving dinner for 250 people. We would roast 15 or 16 large whole turkeys (the church hall had commercial sized ovens) and would start a month before the dinner date. Every...

    Frigidaire matching set

Very nice! Those are in beautiful shape! They are mid-70's - near the end of GM's ownership of Frigidaire. Those have terrific baking ovens.

Kevin, Don't you need this one in your collection?

Hi Lawrence, Thanks for letting me know about this one - it's a beauty! Love the color. Doesn't look like there are any bids yet - I think the starting price is probably too high, but I'm going to follow it. Kevin

Electric Stove for the modern woman

Nice! That is an Electro-Chef made by Electro-Master. We see these frequently here as they were made in the Detroit area. They were also available in a beautiful seafoam green color. I have the exact same model in my collection. Sometimes you see it with the oven on the right and burners on...

It's That Time Of Year Again! What Is Your AC Thermostat Set To?

The thermostat is set at 75 degrees. I still have one of those old round Honeywell thermostat with what looks like mercury in the mechanism. So I just set it and leave it alone. I have two huge maple trees in the front yard which faces west, so that helps to shade the house in the afternoon and...

Help identifying RCA Whirlpool portable fridge/cooler

Thanks, everyone! This unit has now model or serial number on it - at least on the outside. It looks like there was a tag on the back at one time but it’s long gone. It weighs about 20 pounds. It does not appear to have a condenser that I can see. I spotted two components inside that are...
