    GE Versatronic Control Dryer

Control Panel I'd love to see the pictures of the Versatronic washer. The control panel I had off my grandmother's diappeared c. 1981 when my mother went on one of her cleaning rampages. I haven't laid eyes on a Versatronic washer since. :( T.

    CR and Ojectivity

Over the past few years I've noticed that CR doesn't encourage thrift the way they used to. Perhaps it's just a reflection of their readership, but where it used to be a useful tool to help savvy consumers squeeze a penny five times before they spent it (complete with cranky comments like...

    KitchenAid contest

I don't remember seeing anyone post about this before--sorry if its a duplicate. It's quite likely that the oldest running KA dishwasher belongs to one of us. Tom http://www.kitchenaidoffer.com/oldestdish/

    Thermador "Steam" Dishwasher

I had the Thermador timer with yitka in it. I used the term yitka to refer to unidentifiable glop. Further research indicates that it is actually a Czech female proper name. Whoops. Mom always said not to use a word until I knew what it meant. My apologies to the Yitkas of the world. T.

    Myers-Briggs

The medical school I work at has a problem-based learning curriculum and one of the factors they use in forming their small groups (which they work in for the first two years) is Meyers-Briggs personality type. It seems to work out very well--gouping complementary personalities together. The...

    Thermador "Steam" Dishwasher

IF you get it and you find it needs parts, let me know. I have the next model down from this one, so they don't share timers, but probably share most other parts. T.

    My vacuums so far...

We had a Eureka "super power cleaner" stick vac like that when I was a kid. It was my mother's favorite way to wake us all up on a saturday morning--those things SCREAM. I remember the motor torque would cause it to twist in your hand when you started it. What syle bag does that take? And do...

    Time for another Beauty Contest!!

Ech... Here I am at work. My boss took this picture to use up a roll of film--I probably minimized my automaticwasher.org browser window at that very moment. T.

    Your Favorite Dryer

My grandmothers both had early Maytag Halo-of-Heat dryers (DG701 and DE500). They WERE eerily quiet. Those dryers were SO overbuilt. The sad thing was, IMHO, the later 06-series dryers were not big enough to properly hold a max size load from the 06-series deep tub washers. As far as modern...

    Those round HVAC vents

When I was a kid we had a Zayre discount store that had circular ceiling vents that seemed unusually large. Like 8'-10' in diameter and a foot thick. There weren't many of them, like maybe 4 or 6. Freezing air would just pour out of them. Looking at the outside, it seems like each vent had its...

    my new DW

On at least the 15 through 20 series, KA claimed the filters to be self-cleaning "under normal circumstances". The inlet to the drain impeller on all of them is below the fine screen. On the 15-17 models, the any soil on the screen theoretically gets washed down with the downward movement of the...

    my new DW

Sound insulation As far as I know, there wasn't much sound insulation on any KA until after WP bought them. Shortly thereafter (1987-88?) the WhisperQuiet system came out on Superba models which involved sound absorbing pads cemented to the top and sides of the tank and the inner door, thick...

Anyone here like the Shaklee line of cleaning products?

My grandmother used many Shaklee cleaning products as her sister was a dealer. I think she also took the Shaklee vitamins. I guess she didn't trust the Shaklee cleaners and just used them in support of her sister, because I remember when we did dishes we'd use half Shaklee Basic-D and half...

    whassup with the Thermador?

Well the Thermador has been parked in the garage for the past few weeks as yard work and other outdoor projects that need to get done before the weather gets too hot have occupied my time. I note with glee, though, that the half inch or so of water that was in it when I parked it is still in...

    Gotta start somewhere, right?

John--I didn't think that price was unreasonable, given what nice shape it's in. I had my eye on the Osterizer Dual-Range 8 blender that had a manual but no lid, but I talked myself out of it. Got out of there with just a 1956 bath and kitchen renovation guide and a complete vintage Yahtzee. T.

    Gotta start somewhere, right?

jdinstl: Did you happen to get that mixer at TFA on south grand? I was in there saturday and noticed a chrome mixmaster with its manual. If you haven't been to TFA, you need to check it out--really cool stuff. T.

    Thermador Steam Machine

Waste King-Universal, Universal Chef Since we're discussing Thermador and Waste King, does anyone know how long Universal Chef cooking appliances were sold. My parents 1969 house and my Aunt and Uncle's 1973 house both had Universal Chef built-ins which seemed to be slightly restyled Thermador...

    Thermador Steam Machine

Yes, during a wash period the machine fills, washes for awhile (perhaps 1 timer increment) to dissolve the detergent, steams, then washes for a good while before draining. Sorry I can't be more specific than "a good while"--I haven't timed it but it seems to be an adequate duration.

    Thermador Steam Machine

I put a newer top rack in my KDS-18, so it now has the full-size upper wash arm. As far as the smaller one goes...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!? It didn't even have jets in the ends--there wasn't even an ATTEMPT to reach the corners or back of the upper rack. I do like that it has the "constant...

    Thermador Steam Machine

I guess at some point I should have mentioned that my cookie sheets are actually half sheet bakers pans and are 13x18" with a 1" rim. They really won't fit in the bottom rack--it's the rim that's the culprit. If they were rimless, I think they'd be okay. And in order to lean it inward enough to...
