    Technology - Medieval style

"When I rescued an iMac from our transfer station (to sell on eBay) I couldn't make heads nor tails of it for a bit. After playing around a little, I learned enough about it to put something in the description, but that was it. " Now THIS makes me "LOL"!!!!!

    M&S Christmas Ad

If you squint REALLY hard, that looks like Rosie O'Donnell and Dan Aykroyd...from twenty or thirty years ago, anyway!

Info need on a Maytag a407/dg407 set

Our A407 is a great "daily driver". Has four buttons for water level (small, medium, normal, large), three for temp, and "permanent press," "normal," and "delicate". Dial has a 25 minute "soak" cycle, a "soak only," and up to ten minute wash time. Very easy machine to use and love.

Caring For Your Glassware, Suggestions Needed

Dawn-Borax-Hot Water Soak We found a great set of turquoise-colored French "working glasses" and some matching bowls in the same design. Several of the pieces had a multicolored film or haze that looked like dried soap when you held it up to the light, what I've always called "dishwasher...

Why does everyone think Maytag is so great?

Tub... White tub with typical red stains, but none of it comes off on the clothes. No pitting or rusting of the tub itself.

Dial... Dial's worn, as well, but still readable for all practical porpoises..;-)

Why does everyone think Maytag is so great?

Pics of Maude Here's a few. Like most of us who survived the 70s, she ain't the purdiest gal at the prom anymore, to be sure, but still the best $20 we ever spent. The plastic "chrome" is eaten up with green gunk, the white tub has rust stains, the gold paint looks like some dufus tried to...

Why does everyone think Maytag is so great?

Maytag's got yer "turnover" riiiiiiiiiiiiiight Just did a huge load of "dawg towels" (six big beach-towel sized towels) and a 3' x 5' rag rug in ol' Maudie (our $20 Craigslist 70s-vintage A407). Temp set on "hot", action set to "regular", load size set on "large". Don't understand anyone who...

    Stench of fabric softeners

Some folks (like me!) are extremely sensitive to artificial "stank." Scents from laundry smells to (especially) colognes and aftershaves. I get choked, my throat starts to close, and my bronchials start to swell shut. We went to a restaurant for lunch last week, and made the mistake of sitting...

Buying old tube radios... Sandy, it's a subject that is fraught with peril. If you're willing to pay a "collector's price" you will eventually find one in decent, useable shape. Most of them that are still around, however, will "need a lotta work" to say the least. Look for one that's been...

Movie For A Rainy Saturday Night - Mildred Pierce!

Sorry to disappoint, Sandy! ;-) Zenith was really resourceful in making different models based on the same chassis and case...they'd make some with handles, and some without, especially in the bakelite models from the 50s. I'm pretty sure they touted the ones with handles as "portable"...as...

That flip-up thingy... It's actually a carry handle! Here's another link to a better pic, with the handle up. The Wavemagnet was what Zenith called their "souped up" internal antenna..it had various shapes and configs over the spread of different models throughout the years. Some of the...

    Soup!

Thanks for those, Toggles. Lentils rock! Love to make lentil-green bean curry, too. After making a basic lentil soup pretty much as you've described, I make a "slurry" of 3 tablespoons of a good, hot curry powder and one tablespoon of flour, a good dash of salt, and hot water. Add that in just...

Movie For A Rainy Saturday Night - Mildred Pierce!

Happy to be able to contribute! I've been fascinated by old tube radios since I was a kid. It is sad to me that so many no longer realize what an incredible impact "radio" had on the lives of everyone, especially in the 1930s, and on thru the 1960s. It was the first contact with the "outside...

Movie For A Rainy Saturday Night - Mildred Pierce!

PS: Sandy...had NO IDEA that Joan was supposed to play the "Olivia" role in "Hush-Hush Sweet Charlotte" ! Now THAT would've been a delectable thing...especially on the heels of "Baby Jane"!
