    Off topic - Satellite Radio

Living in the middle of nowhere... I just enrolled in XM radio after Christmas. I went with XM because Radio Shack had the receiver on sale. I throw the antenna on the dash, and have great reception (except when between some buildings in built-up areas), and can move the receiver from the car...

Question For Those Who Still Iron.

While I was doing the weekly ironing this evening, my mind wandered and I began to wonder if anyone here on the forum regularly does their ironing with a vintage iron, and if so, what is used. The gold (faded color thanks to the camera's flash) General Electric steam and dry iron pictured below...

What your secret for a really good cup of coffee?

Bokar... Still trying to find that roast in this neck of the woods, but haven't had any luck. I buy whole bean, either from a roaster in Pittsburgh when I get there for a visit, or a few different online roasters that I like, or 8 O'clock (French Roast or Colombian). I grind what I need every...

    AW Recipe Book?

Please, let's... I have been printing recipes that strike my fancy, though I have missed a few. I have gone back to find them, only to find that their time was up and they have vanished. I think this is a great idea! Joe

    "Rude" Wal Mart Employees

xraytech ... You're not talking about the North Versailles WM, are you? When I lived east of Pittsburgh, the North Versailles store was close and handy...and dreaded! One evening, a cashier at that store spoke to me, actually engaged me in conversation as she tallied my purchases. I was so...

    Aluminum Cookware...your thoughts.

I've been using the Crystal body deodorant "stone" for years now. I'm on my third one since 2002. The crystals last forever, and are unscented, hypoallergenic, aluminum chlorohydrate free, and paraben free. The product has worked very well for me. Joe...

    Iron in bed?

You guys have way too much time on your hands. As a person who used to be on the go constantly, I can surely understand those who do not have the time or feel the need to iron the sheets. About ten years ago, I applied the brakes, cut out a lot of the hustle and bustle in my life, and freed up...

    Iron in bed?

Ironed sheets... and pillow cases happen in my house. I use the 100% cotton sheets and pillow cases that were left after my parents passed away...and they got them from my grandmother (who was a hoarder) after she passed away in 1981. I never counted the sheets, but I have three chest of...

    This Is Coffee - 1961

8 O'clock Original and 8 O'clock Columbian are my daily coffees, though when I get to the city, I like to pick up a few bags of whole bean from a coffee shop that I like. There's also a coffee shop in Indiana, PA, not far from me in the great scheme of things, that I really want to try...

    New CFL bulbs

I've had great luck with 'em since switching over three years ago, and have CFLs in every light socket save for two that are enclosed ceiling fixtures. I also like the GE and Philips bulbs. I have a couple of Sylvania bulbs that were on sale, and I find them to be way too harsh. I like that...

    This Is Coffee - 1961

Our A & P left town in the mid 1970s, as I recall that they were still here while I was in high school (and I was graduated in 1974). The chain was running their WEO promotion, and we were wearing the WEO give-away buttons to our classes. In a different time (the 1960s), I do remember my...

    Cleaning Coffee Pots

Dip-it Try mixing Dip-it according to package directions, pour it in the carafe, and let it fizz and soak. I do that with my thermos, and while the stain isn't burnt on, it is a bugger to get clean. A Dip-it soak might work for your carafe. Joe

    This Is Coffee - 1961

Jane Parker Spanish Bar Cake, and Pecan Danish Ring (Entenmann's Pecan Danish Ring is an acceptable substitute) always found their way into our breadbox. Glad to see other Bokar lovers out there! J

    This Is Coffee - 1961

Bokar I too have been looking for that darned coffee. Everywhere I go, if I find myself in a grocery store, I check the coffee aisle. Haven't found it yet. I know that I can order it online, but it galls me to have to pay the shipping charge on top of it all. 1958...What a wonderful story...

    This Is Coffee - 1961

I enjoy my coffee, and brew it according to my mood. Sometimes, I use an electric percolator or a stove top pot. Other times, I use an auto drip machine (especially on work days) such as my Norelco Dial-a-Brew, Philips, or Cuisinart. I use vacuum sometimes, and other times a Chemex. There is a...

    Disco Days

Ahhh, the days... when I had the energy to stay up past 11:00 PM! I've got many a fond memory of nights on the dance floor. I still have a warm spot for classic disco, still have my collection of 12 inch vinyl extended-plays, and enjoy a couple of Internet disco stations. So many years have...
