I enjoy 800 thread count sheets and savour the crisp and smooth feel of starched and ironed hotel beds. Putting the sheets on the bed and ironing as I make it is quick and you don't spend anytime repositioning the lines on an ironing board

I fold the flat sheet in half long ways, and then iron a crease down the center, then when I position it on the bed, as long as the "crease" is centered, I know the sides hanging over the edge are even, that way I'm not running back and forth to check....what do you think?...bad idea?..waste of time?

Ironed sheets? That is a luxury I haven't had since momma was changing my diapers.
And we talked her out of doing it too! --the sheets I mean.

and pillow cases happen in my house. I use the 100% cotton sheets and pillow cases that were left after my parents passed away...and they got them from my grandmother (who was a hoarder) after she passed away in 1981. I never counted the sheets, but I have three chest of drawers drawers full (that's an awkward sentence) of flat sheets, and a tote full of pillow cases. I doubt that I will wear them all out before I am dead and gone.
Anyway, yes, I iron the flat sheet and starch the pillow cases. I know that it takes time, but I am ironing for one, and I feel that I am worth a well made bed...even if it is only for one night!

I have a flat sheet that always curls on all four sides, I have been thinking about ironing just the edges. But then I say why bother I'm the only one that sees them.
Ironing the sheets? You guys have way too much time on your hands. LOL

I just can't understand why ome housekeepers can't find time to irons a simple sheet.
As I use the dinning room table as ironing table, it's much easy to iron them open or maybe folded once by the middle.
Also my mom makes the beds every day and they must be absolutely perfect. All my sheets are the same color and they are replaced daily during the summer or every 4-5 days during the winter.
Even when they aren't replaced, they are ironed again.

Too Much Of Everything
I love to use appliances. I love to do laundry. I love to do housework. I still frieve having the kids gone from home and the exponential housework they encouraged. For me its more than having a chance to play 18 holes of golf instead of 9. There is a whole new feel of luxury when sheets that are thick as canvas become soft and supply. I am four years into my first real love, the most gentle, loving, generous man (the first) and an epiphany of opening to experience all that surrounds me. For nothing else it feels like saying "I love you this much" to create the finest bed I can for the workroom.

As a person who used to be on the go constantly, I can surely understand those who do not have the time or feel the need to iron the sheets. About ten years ago, I applied the brakes, cut out a lot of the hustle and bustle in my life, and freed up a lot of time.
I guess that I am selfish with my time, as I live alone, and save for when I am at work, pretty much call the shots when it comes to how my time is spent. I enjoy keeping my house, as I am doing something special for me, and should someone drop in, I would hope that the time spent here is special for them, also.
That being said, my dearest friend does not iron her sheets, and when I visit, some of the best sleep that I have ever had happens in her guest room bed, with un-ironed sheets!
I sure hope that this does not sound defensive, as it is surely not the case.

Wow, ironed sheets. That brings back memories. My mom used to iron all sheets and pillowcases (along with absolutely everything else).
I tend to wash my sheets every three or four days, mostly because I'm a "shower-in-the-morning" guy, and I love to get into a fresh-smelling bed at night, especially when bed linens can be hung outside this time of year.
Kelly, like you, I've come to enjoy my high (1000) thread-count sheets. I didn't care much for them at first; they seemed stiff as canvas. After awhile, though, I came to appreciate their heft.
I don't enjoy having heavy blankets and comforters on me at night, and these sheets are thick enough to keep one from becoming chilled, yet are much lighter than any blanket. Perfect solution!
They are very bulky compared to standard sheets, though. Two queen-sized sheets and six pillowcases barely fit into the Frigidaire TL'er, so I always wash them in the FL'er. I have to divide the load in half for the dryer. The sheets came out balled up and accordian-wrinkled the first time I laundered them.
And Kelly, if you enjoy the undeniable pleasure of crisply-ironed sheets, then more power to you!

800 thread count sheets...yeesh! I bought a set of sheets for a full/double bed when I was staying in San Jose at a vacant house that my uncle owns. The sheets came from Walmart or Kmart or one of those mart stores and were cheap. The thread count was like 10. I loved those sheets and kept them even though I don't have a bed they'll fit on. They're thick and coarse. I like it rough in bed.
