    Hoover 735 gearbox

Does that have a heater? Hi Tommy, I can't help you with the transmission, however if that has a heater and a polypropolene tub, be very careful with it. There is a design fault that causes the heater to be powered on throughout the entire cycle if the thermostat fails ... melting through the...

    Simpson Easydry

Lovely 70's/80's machine ... simple ... and therefore longlived! I notice the foam lint filter isn't in the photo ... or did this model have a wire mesh? You'll have a lot of dust bunnies to chase if something isn't in place ... Have fun with your latest toy!

    Defy Dishmaid

SMEG, you say ... Hi Jacob, SMEG made the Dishlex brand for Australia from about early 70's to about late 80's, after which Dishlex manufactured here. The front panel on yours looks to have all the buttons, dials and lights in the same relative positions as our Dishlex examples of that era...

    Philips Appliance Brochure Late 1970s

Fascinating It dates me, but I remember one house that had the TOL push-button model around 1976/77. I also knew somebody who had the BOL (or maybe one up from that) dishwasher in 1980. I always thought the tilted upper rack was a clever way of accommodating over sized items either below or...

Good for you! What a wonderful piece of Australian history. And years of enjoyment for you as you restore it and make it a proud part of your collection

    Australian Kitchenaid KDS-17 Timer Problem

Brilliant work! You have the patience of Job to do that ... so glad to see it didn't end in tears

Other pictures too .. Adam, I'm guessing this is the State Library of WA URL you found that picture at. There are a couple of others too. The third shows a wall of other appliances of the day. Thanks for leading us to it. Cheers, Nick https://catalogue.slwa.wa.gov.au/record=b1922065

Front loading washing machine with gearbox/transmission

Fascinating machine ... I'm sure when you do get it home we'd all like LOTS more photos. I'm particularly curious as to brand and where made, what the dials do and the curious button beneath the door - drain plug/pump engagement? Have fun when it arrives!

    Fellow Australians

Wow - 1966 in Geelong I love the way the guy at the beach around 18:40 pulls up, gets out of the car ... and doesn't wind up the window nor lock the doors. No idea what the appliance is, although I think it would be unusual for an ordinaary house anywhere then to have a dishwasher ... but it...

    Water powered spin dryer

Memories of cracked tubs ... My mum had the rins-an-dry. It was great fun to watch ... just don't set it going with an unbalanced load! Mum cracked the centre divider of her concrete set once. A year or two later we got our first washing machine - a Bendix

Old Vulcan Dishlex 1970's ? - how to operate, no instructionss :)

Definitely related ... The filter screen is exactly the same as my mum's E14-10. If you remove it, you'll see the heating element beneath. Those racks look versatile too, with removable tines at the back of the lower rack. It's great that it still runs ... hopefully the timer will still...

Old Vulcan Dishlex 1970's ? - how to operate, no instructionss :)

That's a rebadged SMEG Dishlex in the mid-70's were rebadged SMEG machines. They were even labelled "Dishlex SMEG", where "Vulcan Dishlex" came later. That's why it says "Made In Italy". It wasn't until early 80's that they made/assembled their own machines completely in AU. Could you take...

Anybody seen a dishwasher like this?

Lemair Electrik Broom ... Gizmo: you forgot the vacuuming! Adam: regarding the fill water, you'd have to experiment to see what works. Is a 1600W rating overall going to leave enough grunt for heating with motor running? Or does motor stop while heater operates? More importantly, does the...

    P-O-D 06-Jan Malleys Rinso

Fascinating bit of AU history That manual is interesting. Two large factories in Auburn and Alexandria, but sadly no mention of where the Melbourne plant was. Mountain Street is nowadays called Ultimo, not Sydney. The other Malley's appliances also bring back memories - gas water heaters...

Bendex Gyromatic advert Australian Woman's Weekly 1956

Finally! I've been waiting for years to see an ad for exactly the machine I grew up with. We got ours in 1963, so that cabinet style (if not the entire model run) lasted at least six years. Fantastic machine and many happy memories. My first machine in 1978 was in fact an old one my dad and...

    Bendix Fully Restored

Way cool ... Well done! I'm glad to hear you've overcome all the difficulties and now have the old girl humming along again

    Troubleshooting the Bendix

Warning on Timer Dial Direction Hi Charlie, You mentioned that the machine wouldn't work when turning the dial in either direction. Never attempt to turn a mechanical timer in any direction except the way it would normally advance through its program .... wash/rinse/spin. This is most often...

    Weird washing Ways

Adam Alas, not anymore. That was an early 60's model, long ago replaced by my mum with a mid-80's Bendix and then a Bosch. About 20 years out of each, so quite good really. I've had a late 80's Bendix, then an Asko set around 2001 and am now on a Miele set from 2018.
