Mid-50's Bendix Machines in San Francisco

My partner and I visited San Francisco in June and had a fantastic time in and around the city, as well as in Yosemite Park. You have a wonderful country there and we'll be back to explore some more another time. We were on a tourist bus being driven towards Nob Hill when I happened to look to...

Miele W1070 Washer Woes (Yet Again- Now A Strange Noise)

Shirt Stays ? I've accidentally left the plastic shirt stays in the collar of a shirt before today. They can work their way into the pump chamber and make a horrendous noise when the pump operates. In my case, I drained the machine and removed the filter. The filter was clean and I couldn't see...

    Bruno!

Good fun! We saw it at a Queer Screen preview (the Sydney Queery Film Festival people). It was a hoot. Pushes every non-PC button you can imagine. What I'd really like to know is which bits were staged with actors and which were of real people who thought they were involved in a real...

    Jeff-0-Matic installed!!!

Beautiful machine I was right, in as much as we had the same body, but only as a washer and with the controls at the front, underneath a fold-down cover. The soap-hopper bellows looks exactly the same, which is what caught my eye. Thanks for the photo, Jon.

    Jeff-0-Matic installed!!!

Beautifully clean ... ... Bendix hole? If so, which model and can we have a picture? And if not, then what machine is it exactly? Aside from admiring the ingenuity of the Joff-O-Matic, I was struck by how much the hole reminded me of the machine I grew up with.

    Asko W640 Maintenance/Programming Manual

Almost, but not quite Hi Chris, I figured the electronic machines would be a harder nut to crack :-) The Retrevo link is good, but only has the brochures and installation instructions that came with the machine. I was hoping to track down a service manual on the off-chance that it may have...

    Asko W640 Maintenance/Programming Manual

I have an Asko W640. I'm very happy with it in general, but have often felt it would be better if it had a slightly higher water level. It's a fully electronic machine, so I can control termperature and spin speed without a problem. It crossed my mind that water level might be a programmable...

    ASKO washer & dryer.

I have their older brothers and they're great I've had my Asko set for about 8 years and I'm very happy. 1400 spin and condensor dryer. In apartments in Australia it's rare to be able to vent the dryer. Some laundry alcoves have exhaust fans, but these never have the capacity to really pull the...

    Soap/Detergent Box Collection anyone?

Hi everyone, This guy's collection is amazing. I bought two Hoover floor polishers from him recently and he's a genuine guy who's been an avid collector for many, many years. I'm not personally into these particular items, but perhaps somebody on this site, whether in Australia or overseas...

    wish list from Germany

Oz spelling revisions?? Hi Chris, Say what? When did that happen? What other "corrections" are afoot? No offense to our American friends, but is this all the result of us raising our children on "Sesame Street" instead of adequately funding our own ABC (the national government-funded...

    Toy appliances?

Hoover 612 I had two of these on successive Christmases ... I loved the first so much it wore out and had to be replaced. Somebody on the vacuumland site still has one too ... I'd love to see a picture if anybody has one.

    bendix history

Thanks everyone Hi Gabriele, "Favorit" and Richard, Thanks for all the information. I understand a lot more now than I did when I started. Who makes the heat pump models you mentioned? I'd heard of something like that in Japan, but haven't seen anything like it here in Australia. Nick

Vented versus Condener Kenny, Thanks for the link to the Vented design. Does anyone have anything on the design of the washer/dryer combos? Did the Bendix our UK friend has actually use the same principle as a conventional vented dryer? And how do modern washer/dryers work? I'm trying to...

    Baaaahgain airfare to Oz!!!!!!

Amazing! That's USD $530 return? (AUD $729). With or without taxes? Either way, it seems incredible. We got a promotional return fare SYD/LAX for AUD $971 (USD $705) for travel in June and thought we'd got a great deal - QF must be enticing our American friends to fill up the planes for the...

    Lg 9kg steam washer

Wascomat? I haven't heard of that brand here in Australia, however I remember seeing a picture of some old machines in somebody's back yard not long ago on this site. One was a Wascomat which had come from a laundramat (had a coin mechanism on top). It looked just like some of the earlier Asko...

Vented? So you're beautiful looking machine uses hot fan-forced air to dry the clothes, like a conventional dryer? That seems so sensible and saves water. My impression was that all washer/dryers needed water to condesnse out the water vapour and that they just heated the drum cavity - I didnt'...

Sunbeam "Radiant Control" T20-C Vintage toaster.

Where's the website? I'd love to see the site devoted to them. I threw mine away many years ago (before I found this site, unfortunately) because it got too temperamental. So sad to know that with some TLC it could have been resurrected. On the bright side, I know my mum's from the mid-70's is...
